In our last poll, we wanted to know: <strong>Do you agree with conferences like the Ivy League for cancelling fall sports as COVID cases continue to rise in the United States<\/strong><strong>?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>Ivy League<\/strong> officially decided on Wednesday, July 8 to postpone its fall sports due to the <a href=\"https:\/\/coronavirus.jhu.edu\/us-map\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">COVID-19<\/a>\u00a0pandemic, and will not entertain any sports beginning play until after Jan. 1, 2021. The decision, which was expected, was reported by CBSSports.com\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Jon Rothstein<\/strong>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ivyleague.com\/news\/2020\/7\/8\/general-ivy-league-outlines-intercollegiate-athletics-plans-no-competition-in-fall-semester.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">confirmed by the conference<\/a>\u00a0in a release. The Ivy League\u2019s fall sports include football, field hockey, soccer, cross country and volleyball, and whether their seasons will be played in the spring will be determined at a later date.<\/p>\n<p>Reports also indicated that the Ivy League will make a decision in mid-July on the fate of winter sports, including men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming. Those sports typically begin practice in the fall, but that scenario seems unlikely with the Ivy League putting a halt to fall athletics through the end of 2020 \u2013 at the earliest.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/division-iii-nescac-follows-ivy-leagues-lead-and-cancels-fall-sports-for-upcoming-school-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NESCAC<\/a>, often referred to as the Division III Ivy League, also made a huge decision in cancelling fall sports for the semester. This decision does not necessarily impact swimming specifically, as most NESCAC schools don\u2019t start official practice until early November, but this decision doesn\u2019t mean winter sports will be unaffected.
