In a normal world, the Olympics would be starting this Saturday, but the Games have been pushed back another year because of the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a good time for us to go back,\u201d said World Champion <strong>Ana Marcela Cunha<\/strong>. \u201cLooking forward to the 2021 Olympics. The feeling of starting over to fulfill a dream. Today\u2019s first practice was a warm-up.\u201d Cunha was the World Champ in the 5K and 25K at the 2019 Worlds and also finished fifth in the 10K which solidified her spot in Tokyo. She was also the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/swimming-world-presents-the-2019-open-water-swimmers-of-the-year-florian-wellbrock-and-ana-marcela-cunha\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2019 Open Water Swimmer of the Year<\/a> by this publication.<\/p>\n<p>With over 2 million confirmed cases in the country, the Brazilian Olympic Committee decided to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/brazilian-olympic-committee-to-send-athletes-to-europe-for-training\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">send some of its best athletes to Portugal<\/a> and other European countries over the next few months to train safely ahead of next summer. With the best athletes in the country headed elsewhere, that leaves only a few left in the country to train at the national training centers. According to Reuters, masks are required to be worn at Brazil&#8217;s facilities and equipment must be wiped down before use in the gym.<\/p>\n<p>The list of swimmers going to Portugal includes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/after-years-of-change-brandonn-almeida-making-most-of-time-in-brazil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Brandonn Almeida<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/after-stellar-2019-marcelo-chierighini-content-to-wait-improve-for-tokyo-games\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Marcelo Chierighini<\/strong><\/a>, <strong>Breno Correia<\/strong>, <strong>Marco Antonio Ferreira J\u00fanior, Felipe Fran\u00e7a, Guilherme Guido, Viviane Jungblut, Vini Lanza, Felipe Lima, Gabriel Santos, <\/strong><strong>Leonardo Santos<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-juniors-bronze-medalist-murilo-sartori-verbally-commits-to-louisville-for-fall-of-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Murilo Sartori<\/strong><\/a><strong>,<\/strong> <strong>Fernando Scheffer<\/strong> and <strong>Pedro Spajari<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Joao Gomes Jr.\u00a0<\/strong>was also on the list to Portugal but he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-silver-medalist-joao-gomes-jr-tests-positive-for-covid-19-according-to-reports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">has tested positive for COVID-19<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Brazil&#8217;s lone medalist at the World Championships in Olympic events,\u00a0<strong>Bruno Fratus<\/strong>, is training currently in the United States in Coral Springs, Florida.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re facing a very difficult time, but we\u2019ll get through it,\u201d said <strong>Jorge Bichara<\/strong>, the Brazilian Olympic Committee\u2019s sport manager.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to resume training.
