NEW COMMIT:\u00a0<\/strong>The University of Kansas has scored two new verbal commitments for their growing class of 2025 from Overland Park, Kan. native\u00a0Addi Barnes\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Brigid Gwidt\u00a0<\/strong>of Cedarburg, Wisc.<\/p>\n

She will suit up for the Jayhawks along with\u00a0Claire Hyatt<\/strong>,<\/a> Elliott Howe<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Karla Lessing<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>at the start of the 2021-22 season. Under head coach\u00a0Clark Campbell<\/strong>, the Jayhawks finished second at the 2020 Big 12 Championships.<\/p>\n

Regarding her commitment, she said:<\/p>\n

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Kansas! I want to give a big thank you to my incredibly supportive family, teammates, and coaches for helping me get to where I am today. I chose Kansas because of the outstanding academic opportunities, team dynamics, coaching staff, and feeling of home. I feel blessed and grateful to have the opportunity to compete for such a special team and university. Rock Chalk!!”<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

An extremely versatile swimmer, Barnes does her club swimming with Cool Swim Team and is a Futures qualifier. She most recently collected four gold medals at the Missouri Valley Championships and registered six top-6 finishes at the Tiger Invitational in January. Last summer, she notched six best times at Jenks Sectionals before going on to final in the 400m free at NCSAs.<\/p>\n

  • 500 free – 4:54.41<\/li>\n
  • 1000 free – 10:20.33<\/li>\n
  • 100 back – 57.88<\/li>\n
  • 200 back – 2:03.80<\/li>\n
  • 200 IM – 2:04.84<\/li>\n
  • 400 IM – 4:24.68<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Also competing for Blue Valley West High School, Barnes is a four-time Kansas 6A State Championship finalist. She won the 200 IM and 500 free as a sophomore while taking third in the 100 fly and fifth in the 100 breast during her rookie campaign. She was named the Meet’s Most Outstanding Swimmer in 2019.<\/p>\n

    BRIGID GWIDT<\/h1>\n

    Regarding her commitment, she said:<\/p>\n

    “I chose the University of Kansas because the moment I stepped on campus it felt like the perfect fit. It has both amazing academics and athletics to offer. Thank you to my family, coaches, and teammates for helping me get to this point. I am beyond excited to spend the next four years as a Jayhawk! Rock Chalk!”<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    A Junior National qualifier, Gwidt is a talented breaststroker and swims year-round with Ozaukee Aquatics. She grabbed sixth place in the 100 breast at Wisconsin 13&O States after racing three events at Juniors West in December. She was the 200m breast champion and 200m IM runner-up at Wisconsin LCM States last summer before going on to earn a best time at Junior Nationals.<\/p>\n

    • 100 breast – 1:03.32<\/li>\n
    • 200 breast – 2:17.01<\/li>\n
    • 200 IM – 2:03.99<\/li>\n

      A rising senior at Cedarburg High School, Gwidt is a six-time Wisconsin DI State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American raced to third in the 100 breast and fifth in the 200 IM as a junior while taking third and 10th, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.<\/p>\n
