NEW England Masters Swim Club (NEMSC) set mixed 200 medley and 200 free relay world records in the 200-239 age group, and a national record in the men's 800 free relay, 200-239 age group on Sunday.

The action started early when the foursome of Joel Feldmann (51), Dan Rogacki (55), Greg Shaw (51), and Jenny Luker (45) smashed the 200 medley relay world record by over five seconds with a blazing 2:03.52. The previous mark was set in 1999 by Illinois Masters – 2:08.93.

It was obvious the relay team was psyched to swim fast: Joel Feldmann's 50 back leadoff, 34.51, lowered her own New England record for women 50-54 by over 7- tenths of a second. Rogacki split 32.96 for the 50 breast, 50 fly world record holder Shaw split 26.87, and Luker brought it home with a strong 29.18 freestyle leg.

Later in the meet the four swimmers reassembled to go after the 200 free relay mark: 1:54.31 held by San Diego Swim Masters since 1999.

Rogacki led off with a men's 55-59 New England record 26.27. Feldmann, Luker and Shaw followed with splits of 28.30, 29.26, and 25.53, to slash nearly five full seconds off the previous record – establishing the new mark at 1:49.36.

Rogacki and Shaw were not finished with their relay record setting tear! Next up was an attempt at the men's 200-239 year 800m free relay national record:
9:26.59 set in 2000 by the Crescent Hill Masters Swimming Club of Kentucky. Bob Seltzer (51) and Tom Mack (44) joined Rogacki and Shaw for another tremendous effort, slashing nearly 30 seconds off the USMS record with an 8:58.54.

Seltzer led off with a 2:14.37, followed by Mack (2:18.91), Rogacki (2:18.37), and Shaw in a sizzling 2:06.89. Shaw's relay split was 1.87 seconds under the present men's 200 free 50-54 New England record.

There have been six USMS and FINA masters SCM records set in New England already this fall.
