Had the Youth Olympics gone on as scheduled, the IOC would have the Summer Games, the Winter Games, and the Youth Games all in a span of 12 months.<\/p>\n<p>The IOC\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.olympic.org\/news\/senegal-and-the-ioc-agree-to-postpone-the-youth-olympic-games-dakar-2022-to-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said in a release<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe postponement of Dakar 2022 allows the IOC, the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and the International Federations (IFs) to better plan their activities, which have been strongly affected by the postponement of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, by the subsequent postponements of major international sports events, and by the operational and financial consequences of the global health crisis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the same time, it allows Senegal to carry on the excellent preparations for the Youth Olympic Games. Due to USA Swimming\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/usa-swimming-aims-to-maintain-level-playing-field-with-time-standard-restrictions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">restrictions on times in the month of July<\/a>, Curzan\u2019s time will not count as a national age group record, pending a change of heart by USA Swimming. Shkurdai, who was the silver medalist at last summer\u2019s World Junior Championships behind American\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/top-recruit-torri-huske-focused-on-strength-training-pushing-to-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Torri Huske<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in the 100 butterfly, broke her own national record of 57.39 set last year at the European Juniors.<\/p>\n<p>She had been as fast as a 58.2 earlier this year in March, and is not far off of the current world junior record of 56.46 set by Canada\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Penny Oleksiak\u00a0<\/strong>on her way to Olympic silver in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>The time puts Shkurdai third in the world rankings for 2020 behind Australia\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Emma McKeon\u00a0<\/strong>and reigning Olympic champ and world record holder\u00a0<strong>Sarah Sjostrom\u00a0<\/strong>(56.71). Shkurdai\u2019s swim came while many meets are not being held due to the coronavirus. According to data by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.tut.by\/society\/693009.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Johns Hopkins University and the Ministry of Health<\/a>, Belarus has recorded under 200 new COVID cases each day this week.
