﻿{"id":440265,"date":"2020-07-18T15:05:46","date_gmt":"2020-07-18T22:05:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=440265"},"modified":"2020-07-18T17:21:58","modified_gmt":"2020-07-19T00:21:58","slug":"world-junior-relay-record-holder-amy-tang-verbally-commits-to-stanford","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-junior-relay-record-holder-amy-tang-verbally-commits-to-stanford\/","title":{"rendered":"World Junior Relay Record Holder Amy Tang Verbally Commits to Stanford"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NEW COMMIT:\u00a0<\/strong>Stanford University has landed another big recruit for the 2021-22 season, this time from Bellevue, Wash. native and U.S. National Junior Team member <strong>Amy Tang<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>She will join\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/stanford-gets-verbal-from-colorado-5a-state-50-free-champion-anna-shaw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Anna Shaw<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/junior-national-400-im-champion-samantha-tadder-verbally-commits-to-stanford\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Samantha Tadder<\/strong><\/a>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/national-age-group-record-holder-meghan-lynch-verbally-commits-to-stanford-for-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Torri Huske<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/national-age-group-record-holder-meghan-lynch-verbally-commits-to-stanford-for-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Meghan Lynch<\/a><\/strong>, as well as diver<strong>\u00a0Lauren Burch<\/strong>, as a member of the Cardinal\u2019s class of 2025.<\/p>\n<p>At the 7th FINA World Junior Championships last summer in Budapest, Tang swam the third leg on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/gretchen-walsh-anchors-united-states-mixed-4x100-free-relay-world-junior-record-in-budapest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">winning mixed 4x100m free relay<\/a> along with <strong>Luca Urlando<\/strong>, <strong>Adam Chaney<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Gretchen Walsh<\/strong>. She split a 54.18 as the quartet broke the world junior record with a time of 3:25.92.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding her commitment, she said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>&#8220;I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Stanford University! It has been my dream ever since I was twelve, and I am so thrilled to join such a stellar group of swimmers. I would like to thank my family, my coach Kyle Johnson, and my teammates for all their support. Go Card!&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>At Juniors West in December, Tang won the 50\/100 free combo and was the runner-up in the 100 back. Her 48.11 she posted in the 100 free currently ranks fifth all-time in 15-16 age group history. She has also earned NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors twice in her career thus far.<\/p>\n<p>Tang will make an immediate impact both individually and on relays when she arrives on The Farm in the fall of 2021 as she is already at the NCAA qualifying level in several events.
