{"id":440255,"date":"2020-07-17T13:51:37","date_gmt":"2020-07-17T20:51:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=440255"},"modified":"2020-07-17T13:51:37","modified_gmt":"2020-07-17T20:51:37","slug":"usa-diving-to-not-send-athletes-to-2020-fina-world-juniors-at-end-of-november","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/usa-diving-to-not-send-athletes-to-2020-fina-world-juniors-at-end-of-november\/","title":{"rendered":"USA Diving to Not Send Athletes to 2020 FINA World Juniors At End of November"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>USA Diving announced today that they will not be sending a team to the 2020 FINA Junior World Championships and consequently will not hold a Junior World Trials in 2020 due to the ever-changing landscape of the COVID-19 crisis.<\/p>\n<p>USA Diving&#8217;s decision was made after examining several factors.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>USA Diving is not willing to put the coach\u2019s and athletes\u2019 health in harm\u2019s way.<\/li>\n<li>Many of USA Diving&#8217;s clubs are not able to get back in the water.<\/li>\n<li>U.S. Citizens are largely not allowed to travel internationally.<\/li>\n<li>Other national federations will also be forgoing this year\u2019s competition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The 2020 FINA World Junior Championships are still on for the time being, set for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fina.org\/event\/23rd-fina-world-junior-diving-championships-2020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">November 29 &#8211; December 6<\/a> of this year in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused sporting events all over the world to be cancelled, and with strict social distancing guidelines in place in many parts of the world, sports as we know it may look completely different for some time.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2020-tokyo-olympic-games\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Olympic Games<\/a>, which were supposed to be held eight days from now, have been pushed back an extra 52 weeks in hopes that the virus will be contained by then. According to data compiled from <a href=\"https:\/\/coronavirus.jhu.edu\/data\/new-cases\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Johns Hopkins University<\/a>, the countries where new COVID cases are rising have been the United States, Brazil, India and South Africa, while Russia&#8217;s numbers, a neighboring country to the Ukraine, have gone down.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldometers.info\/coronavirus\/country\/ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ukraine<\/a> as of today has had over 57,000 COVID cases and nearly 1500 deaths. 29,769 have been confirmed recovered from the virus.
