{"id":439820,"date":"2020-07-13T13:46:30","date_gmt":"2020-07-13T20:46:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=439820"},"modified":"2020-07-13T13:46:30","modified_gmt":"2020-07-13T20:46:30","slug":"jamie-platt-stepping-away-from-la-salle-to-head-middle-atlantic-swimming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/jamie-platt-stepping-away-from-la-salle-to-head-middle-atlantic-swimming\/","title":{"rendered":"Jamie Platt Stepping Away From La Salle to Head Middle Atlantic Swimming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/goexplorers.com\/sports\/mens-swimming-and-diving\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">La Salle University<\/a> head swimming and diving coach <strong>Jamie Platt<\/strong> announced his resignation on Monday, after accepting the position of executive director at Middle Atlantic Swimming.<\/p>\n<p>Platt, a former student-athlete with the Explorers, spent 18 seasons as a coach at La Salle University and recently completed his fifth as head coach.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are excited about this new opportunity for Jamie with Middle Atlantic Swimming,&#8221; Director of Athletics and Recreation <strong>Brian Baptiste<\/strong> said. &#8220;Jamie spent nearly two decades positively impacting the lives of student-athletes at La Salle University. We want to thank him for his service, and wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>During his five-year tenure as head coach, Platt&#8217;s teams broke over 50 school records and totaled over 100 since Platt began coaching at La Salle. Since his arrival, Explorers have won over 25 Atlantic 10 Championship event titles and set five conference records.<\/p>\n<p>He recruited international student-athletes from 12 countries, mentored three A-10 Rookies of the Year and two US Olympic Trials qualifiers (<strong>Blase Szyszko<\/strong> &#8217;13 competed in the 100 &amp; 200 Breaststroke events in 2012, and <strong>Mattias Glenesk<\/strong> &#8217;17 competed in the 1500 freestyle in 2016).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;La Salle Swimming &amp; Diving has been a part of my life since my brother Bill joined the program in 1991. I was in awe of a team that cared for each other, supported each other and made each other better people and athletes,&#8221; Jamie Platt said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Leaving this program &#8211; that still has that same caring culture &#8211; was not an easy decision, but the opportunity that Middle Atlantic Swimming presented was one I felt I couldn&#8217;t pass up. La Salle will always hold a special place in my heart, and I can&#8217;t wait to see what the future holds for both programs &#8211; just from the stands now, not the pool deck.
