Photo Courtesy: Messenger Newspapers.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>And the changes so far?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have been working on my kick a lot more and it was something I had not put enough focus on previously,\u201d said Pickett.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been a really good challenge to be able to change the thought patterns and the muscle patterns from what I had always focused on in the upper body of my stroke so Bish actually pointed out something with my kick so we\u2019ve been working on that and seen some improvements and I\u2019m so excited about that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd at SASI (South Australian Sports Institute) they have an absolutely incredible team of sports scientists\u2026so I\u2019ve been changing my diet as well\u2026with the sports science team\u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pickett also knows she has time on her side.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the great things about it is we\u2019ve got that time and there is no rush\u2026\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can take it slow to get it right\u2026.I feel like I\u2019m in a great position leading into next year and I kind of feel like it\u2019s a great opportunity for me..<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course I\u2019m disappointed the Olympics are not this year but for me it\u2019s an absolutely an incredible opportunity and to be setting the world on fire by next year there\u2019s a bunch of us girls and there are quite a few of us that are so close.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA few of the girls have stepped up here and there but it\u2019s anyone\u2019s game really\u2026.it\u2019s very open\u2026.for anyone of us to step up\u2026.and really dominate\u2026.that\u2019s my plan\u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of the girls inside the Australian All-Time Top 10, on best times, Pickett sits fourth on 1:06.88 (2012 Trials) behind 2016 Olympian <strong>Georgia Bohl<\/strong> (1:06.12, 2016 trials), <strong>Jess Hansen<\/strong> (1:06.20, 2018) and another Rio team member <strong>Taylor McKeown<\/strong> (106.64. in 2017) \u2013 times all inside the eighth fastest time in last year\u2019s World Championships \u2013 1:07.06.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>London Olympian and two-time Commonwealth Games breaststroke gold medallist Leiston Pickett has revealed the agonising decision to leave her long time coach to re-ignite her Olympic dream.
