ITU Triathlon World Championships<\/p>\n
CANCUN, MEXICO – Partially cloudy skies, air temperatures at 29oC, with a gentle breeze off the Caribbean were the weather conditions in Cancun as 75 junior men assembled on the 100m long pier for the start of the 2002 ITU Triathlon World Championship. The aggressive early swim pace split the field for the bike race where Tyler Butterfield (BER) stamped a very fast pace. A great fight developed on the run with Terezo Bozzone (NZL) out sprinting David Hauss (FRA) to win<\/p>\n
This was Bozzone's third Junior crown to add to his 2001 and 2002 ITU Duathlon Junior titles.<\/p>\n
Butterfields hard work on the bike was rewarded with the third position. The remaining top 6 places were taken by different countries.<\/p>\n
The 55 starters in the Junior Women's event settled into a big group behind the breakaway lead swim of Maxine Seer (AUS). Out on the bike the leading European contenders positioned themselves with a very fast 40 kph ride. Out on the run the strongest runners Marion Lorblanchet (FRA), and Wendy de Boer (NED) edged away to fight out an exciting sprint finish.with Lorblanchet victorious<\/p>\n
Elizabeth May (LUX), last weekends 2002 Aquathlon World Champion crossed in third place. In a positive sign for junior development the top 12 positions went to 12 different countries.<\/p>\n
