NEW COMMIT:\u00a0<\/strong>Boise, Idaho native\u00a0Gabe Machado\u00a0<\/strong>has announced his verbal commitment to Stanford University and will suit up for the Cardinal at the start of the 2021-22 season.<\/p>\n

He told\u00a0Swimming World:<\/em><\/p>\n

“I am very excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Stanford University. It has been a childhood dream of mine to attend this school and I can’t believe that it is coming true. Since I first stepped on campus I knew this was the place for me. I would like to thank my friends, teammates, coaches, and especially my family for getting me to where I am today. I can’t wait to join this awesome team and community. #GoCard#FeartheTree”<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Primarily a distance freestyler and backstroker, Machado does his club swimming with Boise YMCA Swim Team under head coach\u00a0Todd Marsh\u00a0<\/strong>and owns several U.S. Open and Junior National cuts. He finished 10th in the 200 back at Juniors West in December where he earned four best times and most recently registered eight top-5 finishes at the Washington Open.<\/p>\n

At YMCA Nationals in April 2019, Machado collected the bronze medal in the mile and took 12th in the 200 back. Last summer, he had five top-18 showings at Mount Hood Sectionals before going on to achieve 100% best times at Junior Nationals.<\/p>\n
