HOUSTON, Texas, November 5. FOR the 11th straight time, the Rice women\u2019s swimming team defeated the Houston Cougars 162-122 in dual meet action, Friday afternoon at the UH Natatorium. Rice won the first 12 events and 13 of 16 total events to move to 2-0 on the year. <\/p>\n

The Owls were led by senior Mandy Mularz, who swam a 23.81 to win the 50-yard freestyle, the second best time in the conference this season. She owns the school record of 22.17 set last season at the NCAA champoinships. Mularz also won the 100-free tonight with a time of 52.34, fourth best in the Western Athletic Conference this year.<\/p>\n

Sophomore Lauren Hill helped the Owls to their second win with victories in the 100- and 200-yard breststroke events. Hill swam the 100 in a time of 1:05.00, fifth best in the WAC this year, and notched a 2:19.01 in the 200 for the third fastest time in the league.<\/p>\n

Other event winners for the Owls included Jackie Corcoran in the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle, Kiana Taheri in the 200-yard freestyle, Toni Ciffolilli in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke, and Elaine Lee in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly. Under the command of first-year Head Coach Seth Huston, Rice\u2019s 400-yard medley relay crew of Lee, Hill, Jenny Voight and Taheri won the event in a time of 3:59.01.<\/p>\n
