Of course, with the COVID-19 pandemic causing havoc around the world, the Olympics were pushed back to next summer, which called for the Olympic Trials <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/usa-swimming-olympic-trials-scheduled-for-june-2021-in-omaha\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">to be postponed<\/a>, too. Despite the change in plan, that does not mean<em> Swimming World<\/em> cannot provide coverage over the eight days Trials were originally scheduled to take place.<\/p>\n<p>Over the next week (plus one day), <em>Swimming World<\/em> will provide its readership with a variety of articles that look back and ahead. Each day, articles will be posted that examine what unfolded at the 2016 edition of the Olympic Trials. Additionally, separate articles will be posted that take a glance at how each individual event is shaping up for 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Swimming World has opted to follow the Olympic Trials schedule for the release of these various articles. The \u201cThrowback\u201d pieces will be posted during the morning, to coincide with when the preliminary heats would have been held. Starting in late afternoon, the pieces focusing on the future will be published. More, the articles will be released in the order of how the events are scheduled.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest change between the 2016 Trials and next summer\u2019s Trials is the fact that the 800 freestyle (men) and 1500 freestyle (women) have been added to the program. The addition of these events by the International Olympic Committee means the Olympic schedule for men and women will be identical in Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>We welcome a time \u2013 and only when it is 100% safe \u2013 when competition resumes, and <em>Swimming World<\/em> can again cover live action of some of the top swimmers in the world.
