﻿{"id":436520,"date":"2020-06-21T13:40:36","date_gmt":"2020-06-21T20:40:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=436520"},"modified":"2020-06-21T19:34:57","modified_gmt":"2020-06-22T02:34:57","slug":"2021-trials-vision-mens-400-free-could-be-in-zane","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2021-trials-vision-mens-400-free-could-be-in-zane\/","title":{"rendered":"2021 Trials Vision: Men&#8217;s 400 Free Could Be In-Zane"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Each day during the pre-scheduled days of the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials, Swimming World will take its readers back four years to the 2016 Trials in Omaha to recap each event, and will offer some insight into what the events will look like in 2021.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>With the Tokyo Olympics moved to 2021, the landscape of the U.S. Olympic Trials will be much different one year later.<\/p>\n<p>The Olympic Trials would have started this week with a group of contenders ready to punch their tickets to Tokyo. Bick<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>The Longshots<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Several other swimmers had strong performances in the past couple of years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eric Knowles<\/strong> had a strong nationals, finishing third in 3:48.34, while <strong>Andrew Abruzzo<\/strong> swam a 3:48.41 at the 2019 Pan American Games.<\/p>\n<p>They could have crashed the party at the 2020 Trials \u2014 and still could in 2021.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Looking Ahead to 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>No matter what happens in this event at Trials, the U.S. will be underdogs at the Olympics.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Peter Vanderkaay<\/strong>\u2019s bronze medal in London in 2012 was the last medal in the event.
