{"id":436224,"date":"2020-06-18T06:00:24","date_gmt":"2020-06-18T13:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=436224"},"modified":"2020-06-18T07:57:40","modified_gmt":"2020-06-18T14:57:40","slug":"adam-peaty-welcomes-return-of-drug-testing-as-anti-doping-battle-continues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-welcomes-return-of-drug-testing-as-anti-doping-battle-continues\/","title":{"rendered":"Adam Peaty Welcomes Return Of Drug Testing As Anti-Doping Battle Continues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Drug testing in Britain is resuming after being severely impacted by lockdown with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-back-on-the-hunt-olympic-champ-stalking-tokyo-from-home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Adam Peaty<\/strong> <\/a>happy to welcome the testers back.<\/p>\n<p>The issue of doping has raised its ugly head once more after athlete<a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/olympics\/2020\/06\/17\/christian-coleman-suspended-missing-doping-tests-track-and-field\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <strong>Christian Coleman<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; the world 100m champion &#8211; was provisionally suspended on Wednesday after missing a third drugs test and breaching whereabouts rules.<\/p>\n<p>Three failures to properly file whereabouts information or being absent during the hour stated in a 12-month period can result in a one or two-year suspension.<\/p>\n<p>Coleman had already escaped a ban last year when the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usada.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong> United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA)<\/strong><\/a> charged him\u00a0with missing three drugs tests in 12 months but had to withdraw it because of a filing irregularity regarding the date of the first missed test.<\/p>\n<p>However, the 24-year-old missed a third drug testing moment on 9 December 2019 although he is disputing that, claiming he was Christmas shopping &#8220;five minutes away&#8221; from home and the tester made no effort to contact him.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UK Anti-Doping Agency<\/strong> chief <strong>Nicole Sapstead<\/strong> had sought to reassure athletes that anti-doping efforts were ongoing during lockdown courtesy of UKAD&#8217;s intelligence and investigations team.<\/p>\n<p>Some swimmers are now back in the water and drug testing has resumed as the long journey back to &#8216;normality&#8217; &#8211; whatever that form that may take &#8211; commences.<\/p>\n<p>Adam Peaty has long aired his views on drug cheats, saying: &#8220;Any doping in the sport is a straight no from me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Now he has welcomed the return of drug testing testers with a post on social media.<\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed-wrap\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">First Anti-Doping test in a while today, good to see things shifting in the right direction \ud83d\ude4f\ud83c\udffc<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Adam Peaty OBE (@adam_peaty) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/adam_peaty\/status\/1273585541464932352?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 18, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Drug testing in Britain is resuming after being severely impacted by lockdown with Adam Peaty happy to welcome the testers back.
