Donning wetsuits, the group swims between buoys spread about 100 yards apart. While timing reps isn\u2019t easy, it\u2019s at least a chance to get back in the water when most pools and indoor facilities remain closed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDefinitely never thought I would be swimming open water, coming out and training in the pond,\u201d King <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/olympics\/2020\/05\/25\/olympian-lilly-king-other-pro-swimmers-training-indiana-pond\/5255603002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told T<em>he Indianapolis Star<\/em><\/a>. \u201cBut it\u2019s kind of been a nice little change here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The group\u2019s connection to the open water stems from <strong>Kandis Looze,<\/strong> the wife of Indiana coach <strong>Ray Looze.<\/strong> Kandis Looze coaches at Bloomington South High School and made the connection to the developer of the complex to get the swimmers in the water.<\/p>\n<p>King has had precious few chances to swim in recent weeks. She trained at a pool in her native Evansville until it closed and also at a private pool in Indianapolis. Other than that, King and others have been marooned to do CrossFit and other dryland training.<\/p>\n<p>Any aquatic training is better than nothing, even if that includes silt being kicked up and the occasional turtle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot that I didn\u2019t respect these people\u2019s hard work or anything beforehand,\u201d Lazor said. \u201cBut it gave me such a newfound respect for the people I\u2019m around every day, truly. They\u2019re willing to do whatever they can to get better and be in the water during this time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lilly King is handling the Olympic postponement in stride. The reigning Olympic champ and two-time reigning World Champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/lilly-king-fights-off-yulia-efimova-surge-to-retain-100m-breaststroke-title-russian-moves-level-with-jones-medal-haul-race-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in the 100 breaststroke<\/a>, King has taken the time off as a reset.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m going to be honest. It\u2019s been kind of nice,\u201d King said. \u201cHaven\u2019t exactly had a break since I\u2019ve been 8 years old.
