{"id":432045,"date":"2020-05-14T15:01:05","date_gmt":"2020-05-14T22:01:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=432045"},"modified":"2020-05-14T15:40:58","modified_gmt":"2020-05-14T22:40:58","slug":"nbc-announces-documentary-in-deep-with-ryan-lochte","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/nbc-announces-documentary-in-deep-with-ryan-lochte\/","title":{"rendered":"NBC Announces Documentary &#8216;In Deep With Ryan Lochte&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Ryan Lochte<\/strong> will be the subject of a documentary titled &#8220;In Deep With Ryan Lochte&#8221; by NBCUniversal&#8217;s new streaming service, the network announced Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The content, produced by Peackcock and NBC Sports Films, will be available to stream on July 15, 2020, when the service launches nationally.<\/p>\n<p>The network description states:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cIn Deep With Ryan Lochte\u201d will explore the athlete\u2019s much-covered scandal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro. Now four years past the incident and a father of two, Lochte tries once more to make his way onto the U.S. Olympic team and prove he isn\u2019t the same man he once was.&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Our variety of Peacock Originals at launch demonstrates how we deliver timely and timeless content \u2013 no matter the genre or format,&#8221; Peacock President of Original Content <strong>Bill McGoldrick<\/strong> said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfmz.com\/news\/pr_newswire\/pr_newswire_entertainment\/peacock-announces-first-originals-for-july-15-launch\/article_f5412a71-5914-533a-a944-a6b927b02775.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a>. &#8220;We&#8217;re proud to establish our voice and are excited to build on our strategy to attract a wide audience to Peacock.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Lochte spoke with <em>Swimming World<\/em> about the Olympic postponement in March, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ryan-lochte-still-100-in-on-tokyo-olympics-despite-old-age-and-year-long-postponement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">with his push now for 2021<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s still more I want to accomplish in the sport of swimming,\u201d Ryan Lochte said. \u201cThis Olympics being postponed is just another minor bump in the road. I\u2019ve had many bumps in the road especially in the past four years that I have been able to overcome and get back and move forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a minor bump but I got to look at the positives of this. I get to have another year of training, another year of getting better. Working on my technique and getting stronger in and out of the water. I think I\u2019m going to become an even better and faster swimmer than I am right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lochte is a 12-time Olympic medalist but has had a rocky road since his last Olympics in Rio where he swam on the gold medal winning 4\u00d7200 free relay team alongside <strong>Michael Phelps<\/strong>, and was fifth in the 200 IM.<\/p>\n<p>He generated international controversy when he had a drunken altercation with Brazilian police after the Rio Games, and was suspended by USA Swimming for lying publicly about the incident. He lost four of his major sponsorships, could not compete for a spot on the 2017 Worlds team, and lost a lot of his reputation.<\/p>\n<p>The bumps in the road continued in 2018 when he was suspended by USADA just before the US Nationals for receiving intravenous fluids without a therapeutic use exemption.<\/p>\n<p>But Lochte made a strong comeback to the pool at the 2019 US Nationals, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ryan-lochte-family-man-on-a-mission-is-back-among-worlds-elite\/\">winning the 200 IM<\/a> and re-establishing his position among the world\u2019s elite.<\/p>\n<p>This documentary will provide a look at those bumps in the road and how Lochte emerged from them and looks to remain among the world&#8217;s elite in swimming.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ryan Lochte will be the subject of a documentary titled &#8220;In Deep With Ryan Lochte&#8221; by NBCUniversal&#8217;s new streaming service, the network announced Thursday.
