Walsh (Harpeth Hall in Tennessee) checks in at 18.<\/p>\n<p>Smith is the world record-holder in the 100- and 200-meter backstroke. She won gold in the 200 back at the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea, her finals time of 2:03.35 chopping <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworlmagazine.com\/news\/regan-smith-shatters-missy-franklins-200-back-world-record\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">more than a half-second off the world record<\/a> held since 2012 by <strong>Missy Franklin<\/strong>. Smith led off the gold-winning 400 medley relay, her 100 back time of 57.57 seconds taking down <strong>Kathleen Baker\u2019s<\/strong> world mark. The relay also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/watch-regan-smith-in-100-back-usa-medley-relay-shatter-world-records-in-same-race-race-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">set the world record<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Smith was named Swimming World\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/swimming-world-presents-the-2019-swimmers-of-the-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Female World and American Swimmer of the Year in 2019<\/a>. Bick<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Walsh won three gold medals at the Pan American Games last summer, claiming the 200 back, 200 individual medley and swimming a leg on the victorious 800 freestyle relay. Among numerous national age-group records, Walsh also holds the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/another-day-another-record-alex-walsh-lowers-100-back-national-high-school-record\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">national high school record in the 100 back<\/a>. She has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/national-age-group-record-holder-alex-walsh-announces-2020-verbal-to-virginia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pledged her future to the University of Virginia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>MaxPreps&#8217; &#8220;Must-Know&#8221; list comprises athletes from 15 states.
