DAVIS, Calif., Oct. 27. JUST one day after the Redhawk men defeated UC-Davis at the University of Pacific Invitational, the Aggies gained revenge, sweeping a dual meet between the two schools Sunday afternoon in Davis, Calif.<\/p>\n
Merceda Rivera (So., Mountain View, Hawaii\/Waiakea HS) had a huge day for the Redhawk women, but it was not enough as the Aggies pulled out a 125-80 victory. <\/p>\n
Jonathan Bartsch (So., Billings, Mont.\/Billings HS) and Joe Laughlin (Sr., Albany, Ore.\/Albany HS) both picked up individual victories for the SU men, but Davis prevailed 129.5-75.5 in that competition.<\/p>\n
Rivera sparked the Redhawks with two individual victories and a first-place finish in one of two relays on the afternoon. Rivera first swam to victory
\nin the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.47. She followed that up by taking first in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 59.38. Rivera helped the Redhawks end the meet on a bright note, swimming the anchor leg of the 200-freestyle relay team that won the meet's last event with a time of 1:41.46, beating Davis by over a second.<\/p>\n
Bartsch and Laughlin picked up the only two victories of the day for the SU men. Bartsch swam to victory in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing with a time of 1:56.82. In the following event, Laughlin captured first in the 100 fly, winning the event in over a second with a time of 51.88.<\/p>\n
Both Bartsch and Laughlin also met 'B' cut qualifying standards for the NCAA Division II national meet. Those who make 'A' cut standards automatically qualify for the national meet. If there are not enough automatic qualifiers for nationals, those who made 'B' cut standards will then be selected sequentially. If a swimmer make an 'A' cut in any event, he or she may also compete in all events in which 'B' cut standards were met. <\/p>\n
