{"id":430530,"date":"2020-05-05T09:39:15","date_gmt":"2020-05-05T16:39:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=430530"},"modified":"2020-05-05T09:39:15","modified_gmt":"2020-05-05T16:39:15","slug":"tiffin-university-cuts-swimming-and-diving-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/tiffin-university-cuts-swimming-and-diving-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Tiffin University Cuts Swimming and Diving Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tiffin University has discontinued its men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s swimming and diving programs immediately, Athletic Director <strong>Lonny Allen<\/strong> announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Tiffin is an NCAA Division II program in Ohio.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These are trying times for many institutions and Tiffin University is not immune to these times,&#8221; Allen said in a statement. &#8220;President Schumacher and I have looked at the athletic department as a whole. While this is a difficult decision to make, we feel it is appropriate for the health of the department and University.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Scholarships for current swimmers and divers will be honored for the duration of their academic careers. Student-athletes who would like to join another institution&#8217;s roster will be released without penalty and are free to transfer immediately.<\/p>\n<p>Tiffin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/tiffin-university-adds-mens-womens-swimming-and-diving\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">started its swimming and diving program in 2012<\/a>. The men&#8217;s program has finished second in the GMAC in each of the past two seasons. The programs totaled four NCAA All-Americans and 40 all-conference performers (34 men, 6 women) during the past eight seasons.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lukas Jachno<\/strong> resigned as head coach on April 30.<\/p>\n<p>Jachno served as Head Men&#8217;s and Women&#8217;s Coach since 2018-19, with the Dragons men&#8217;s team finishing second in the GMAC\/MEC Championships in both seasons. He was named Men&#8217;s Coach of the Year in 2019, while also earning Men&#8217;s Coach of the Meet in 2020. Over his two seasons, Jachno led squads that recognized 23 All-GMAC selections (20 men&#8217;s, 3 women&#8217;s). Under Jachno&#8217;s direction, the men and women won a combined 25 total events at the GMAC\/MEC Swimming &amp; Diving Championships.<\/p>\n<p>The equestrian program was also discontinued at Tiffin University.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tiffin University has discontinued its men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s swimming and diving programs immediately, Athletic Director Lonny Allen announced Tuesday.
