IOWA CITY, Iowa, October 27. THE Wisconsin men\u2019s swimming and diving team defeated Iowa, 211-140, Saturday after two days of action in Iowa City, Iowa. The Badgers (3-0) won eight out of nine events to complete the meet against Iowa with 17 total event wins.<\/p>\n
"We dominated the meet," coach Eric Hansen said. "And so we\u2019re excited about what\u2019s to come. We\u2019re excited to get our team healthy because we think we have better things in store."<\/p>\n
Freshman James Wike continued to swim well on the Badgers\u2019 third-straight day of action. Wike picked up wins in the 200 backstroke (1:49.04) and 400 IM (3:56.97). Wike also led off the winning 400 medley
\nrelay.<\/p>\n
"Wike\u2019s performance this weekend could prove to make him the biggest impact freshman the men\u2019s team has ever seen," Hansen said. "His versatility and ability to step up are pretty awesome."<\/p>\n
Juniors Matt Marshall and Dale Rogers, senior Brian Neuman and sophomore Eric Wiesner took first place in their respective events as the Badgers also exhibitioned 13 swimmers Saturday. Diver Matt Smith
\ntook fourth on the three-meter board (221.47).<\/p>\n
"Our overall performance is where we would hope it would be," Hansen said.<\/p>\n
UW next travels to Tucson, Ariz., Nov. 1-2 to take on Arizona and Arizona State.<\/p>\n
"Next week will be a huge test, but we feel we have a nucleus on each side that can step up and compete," Hansen added. <\/p>\n
Women's Meet<\/b>
\nThe Wisconsin women\u2019s swimming and diving team
\ndefeated Iowa, 225-127, Saturday after two days of action in Iowa City, Iowa. The Badgers (3-0) won seven events Saturday and exhibitioned 16 swimmers and two relays.<\/p>\n
Carly Piper continued her weekend dominance in the 500 free, winning the event Saturday in a NCAA automatic qualifying time. Piper broke the UW Natatorium pool record Thursday in the event and swam a 4:45.45
\nSaturday. Her time Saturday ranks 13th compared to the event finishers at the 2002 NCAA Championsihps.<\/p>\n
\u201cPiper was spectacular over the past three days,\u201d Hansen said. \u201cIt\u2019s only October and she\u2019s already proven she\u2019s a contender.\u201d<\/p>\n
Senior Sarah McCauley swam a pool record in the 200 backstroke, touching in 1:59.98, an NCAA B qualifying time. Junior Emily Pisula picked up two more wins Saturday to total four against Iowa. Pisula won
\nthe 200 breaststroke and 400 IM Saturday.<\/p>\n
\u201cEmily Pisula showed her versatility and swam up to her potential this weekend,\u201d Hansen said. \u201cShe\u2019ll be a key component in our continued progress as we strive to crack the top ten.\u201d<\/p>\n
On the one-meter board, Wisconsin\u2019s divers finished second through fifth. Senior Sara Wiezorek took second for the Badgers with 224.94 points. Junior K.C. Bunnell and rookies Cassie Kubly and Amanda Witte
\ntook third, fourth and fifth, respectively.<\/p>\n
