OTTAWA, Canada, Oct. 22. A new strategic plan developed to strengthen the development of Canadian competitive swimming, was ratified by Swimming Canada's Board of Directors at its Annual General Meeting held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, October 18 to 20. <\/p>\n
The new plan sets Swimming Canada's key strategic
\nobjectives for its extensive program of operations, namely: High Performance; Swimmer, Coaching, Club and Officials Development; Event Management; Communications, Marketing and Partnership Development;
\nAssociation governance and Association Management.<\/p>\n
"This clearly marks the initiation of a new strategic direction for Swimming Canada", stated President Rob Colburn. "We have set forth a strong, cohesive plan that will focus, prioritize and deliver effective
\nprograms to fulfill our mission of being a world leader in every aspect of swimming."<\/p>\n
Swimming Canada has also implemented an Accountability Framework that is based on a set of core values derived from its international rationale for success, a podium focus and a Commit to W1N! philosophy. <\/p>\n
"We have a dedicated team of professional staff at Swimming Canada", stated CEO Karen Spierkel, "Our set of key corporate values, namely professional excellence, accountability, responsibility, respect, integrity, growth and learning, open communication, selflessness and commitment, is inherent to working

This year, Swimming Canada welcomed home Olympic Medalist Mark Tewksbury to take part in its discussions. In an eloquent and moving presentation to
\ndelegates, Mr. Tewksbury recounted memorable moments that reflected the strong core values of the sport — those values that contributed to his success as a world champion and to the internationally-recognized
\nindividual he is today. <\/p>\n
"Swimming Canada holds those core values in trust for all our athletes," expressed Tewksbury. "If we expect the best from our athletes, then together, we must take responsibility to protect that trust." <\/p>\n
Mr. Tewksbury also added that, "After 10 years of being away from the sport, it is amazing to be here today and instantly feel that I am back home – among my family".<\/p>\n
An official statement from Swimming Canada noted: "The successful implementation of Swimming Canada's new strategic plan is critically dependent on the commitment of all players to collaborate and fulfill their respective roles. The responsibility continuum ensures a seamless delivery of programs from grass roots to high performance levels and requires the commitment of professionals, volunteers, provincial
\nsections and clubs. It is this commitment, at all levels, that has contributed to Swimming Canada's Commit to W1N! philosophy and brand positioning."<\/p>\n
