Plymouth State will added men\u2019s swimming to its academic offerings in the 2020-21 season, the school announced Thursday.<\/p>\n

The Division III school in New Hampshire will compete in the Little East Conference, which hosted its first men\u2019s invitational last February and now counts five men’s swimming programs, enough to push for a league championship next season.<\/p>\n

PSU has a women\u2019s program, which finished fourth out of seven at the women\u2019s Little East Champs in February. The men\u2019s program will be coached by Anne Barbeau,<\/strong> the head coach of the women\u2019s team for the last two years. The school will add an assistant coach position to help with staffing.<\/p>\n

“The addition of men’s swimming is both exciting for our department as well as beneficial to the growth of the sport at Plymouth State,\u201d Director of Athletics Kim Bownes said in a university statement<\/a>. \u201cThere has been a steady increase in the number of men’s programs throughout New England and we look forward to offering an exceptional experience to a new group of student-athletes. We have had great success with the women’s program over the past two years and believe this will raise the level of our athletics program across the board.”<\/p>\n

Plymouth State sponsors 25 sports (12 men\u2019s, 13 women\u2019s) and is adding a sport for the first time since 2015-16, when it inaugurated men\u2019s and women\u2019s track and field teams.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
