Dates not official.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/olympics\/2020\/03\/23\/olympics-2020-ioc-member-tokyo-games-postponed-dick-pound-coronavirus\/2899848001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>USA Today<\/em><\/a>, International Olympic Committee member\u00a0<strong>Dick Pound<\/strong> said that the Tokyo Olympic Games are likely to be postponed to 2021. Details will be worked out within the next four weeks as nothing is official as of this moment.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cOn the basis of the information the IOC has, postponement has been decided,\u201d Pound said in a phone interview. \u201cThe parameters going forward have not been determined, but the Games are not going to start on July 24, that much I know.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Pound, a Canadian who has been one of the most influential members of the IOC for decades, said he believes the IOC will announce its next steps soon.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/tokyo-olympic-games-cancellation-d-day-late-may-over-new-war-coronavirus-says-dick-pound\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> He was the first IOC Member to suggest that the Games might not go on this year, having suggested a decision would have to be made &#8220;by May.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Events have placed the clock on fast-forward.\u00a0\u201cIt will come in stages,\u201d said Pound on the postponement and what will happen next.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cWe will postpone this and begin to deal with all the ramifications of moving this, which are immense.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The news is coming after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/canada-will-not-send-athletes-to-2020-olympics-steps-up-postponement-pressure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Canada announced they will not send athletes to the Games<\/a> if they were to be held as scheduled this summer. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/games-over-for-tokyo-2020-australian-pm-tells-nation-travel-ban-set-to-last-six-months\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Australia&#8217;s Prime Minister also announced that no citizens will be allowed to leave the country for six months<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Pound, who is Canadian, has been one of the most influential members of the IOC.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first time the Summer Olympic Games have been postponed.
