I am excited to lead this capable team and am committed to fostering a community in which our divers can safely compete at the highest level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Michaud began diving at age 10. He was a five-time member of the national team and a multi-time national champion. He graduated from Michigan with a bachelor\u2019s degree in kinesiology. His daughter, Alyssa, played water polo at Michigan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur entire Board and organization enthusiastically welcome Lee Michaud as our new President,\u201d USA Diving chairman <strong>Dave Gascon<\/strong> said. \u201cHis passion and ambition for the future of USA Diving and our sport is inspiring. He also brings the proven leadership, analytical skills and deep understanding of the sport that is needed to elevate USA Diving and to support our athletes, members and the greater diving community in the U.S.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>USA Diving has undergone numerous changes in recent years. CEO <strong>Terry Bassett<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/terry-bassett-out-as-ceo-of-usa-diving-search-for-successor-underway\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">resigned in February<\/a>. Bassett replaced <strong>Lee Walsi Johnson,<\/strong> whose tenure began in May 2017 and <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/25599cd9253e4df19d096558fdbf3434\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">lasted just 18 months<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Lee Michaud <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamusa.org\/USA-Diving\/News\/2020\/March\/17\/A-Letter-from-Lee-Michaud-Newly-Appointed-President-of-USA-Diving\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">posted a letter to USA Diving members<\/a> Tuesday that read in part:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know that I am coming to USA Diving at a challenging time for our organization and for the world around us.\u00a0 I am confident that, together, we can navigate these challenges and come out the other side better and stronger.
