The NBA season got shut down. The NCAA Division II Championships got cancelled after just three sessions. Bick<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ariana-kukors-settles-in-hutchison-abuse-claim-with-usa-swimming-for-undisclosed-sum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>By Swimming World Editorial Team<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ariana Kukors Smith<\/strong>, who claimed the World 200m medley crown and world record in Rome back in 2009, has settled with\u00a0<strong>USA Swimming<\/strong>\u00a0for an undisclosed amount\u00a0two years after pursuing a legal case against the swimming federation after she said that she had been groomed and then sexually assaulted by her personal and national-team coach\u00a0<strong>Sean Hutchison<\/strong>\u00a0when she was a teenager.<\/p>\n<p>Today (March 11) the fifth-place finisher over 200m medley at the London 2012 Olympic Games, announced:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI am glad that we were able to come to a resolution to this difficult process. As I begin the next chapter of my life, I hope that these last two years, along with the efforts of so many others, will help to provide athletes with a safer environment in which to compete.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In its own statement, USA Swimming thanked Kukors Smith for her \u201cincredible strength and bravery\u201d in sharing her story, adding:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cMrs. Kukors Smith thrust the very important subject matter of sexual abuse within youth-serving organizations into focus and furthered important dialogue about the continued need for robust athlete-protection policies and strong athlete and parent education.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>#4: Tokyo Olympic Games Could Be Called Off If WHO Says They Should become the latest nation to cancel national swimming championships<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.trust.org\/item\/20200313083212-5i69y\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Tokyo metropolitan government postponed the opening ceremony of the Olympic Aquatics Centre<\/strong><\/a>, Bach was invited time and time again to get \u00a0beyond the standard \u201cGames will go on from July 24\u201d mantra, in an interview with German television\u00a0<em>ARD.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Eventually, the reporter changed tack and asked Bach \u201cif the WHO recommends that you should not go ahead with the Games in July, will you call a halt?\u201d Bach hesitated a touch before replying:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe will follow the advice of the swimmers and all alike, \u201cto\u00a0be patient and take care of yourselves and your loved ones. Bick<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ncaa-cancels-winter-championships-including-swimming-and-diving\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>By Matthew De George<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The NCAA has joined most American sports leagues in cancelling events, wiping out winter championships as well as spring events in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday\u2019s announcement includes the cancellation of the Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s Swimming and Diving Championships due to be held later in March. It also halted the Division II Championships <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2020-ncaa-division-ii-championships-day-2-prelims-live-recap\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">that were underway<\/a> in Geneva, Ohio.<\/p>\n<p>While everyone seemingly is on the same page about this having to happen, it still is devastating to athletes missing their final competitions \u2014 especially the seniors. It leads to an endless list of: \u201cWhat ifs?\u201d for NCAA swimming.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is the biggest things, the \u2018what ifs?\u2019 It was such an abrupt end,\u201d Michigan senior\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/artist-miranda-tucker-transforms-breaststroke-into-art-form-heading-into-ncaas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Miranda<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Tucker<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0told\u00a0<em>Swimming World<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Tucker was a senior poised to make a run at the NCAA swimming title in the 100 breaststroke.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt hurts a lot, I am not gonna lie. I had been feeling the best I had all year. Everything was going in the right direction,\u201d Tucker said. \u201cI finally had a true belief in myself. I am capable of great things and I was ready to let it rock.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy first heart-felt thoughts go out to the seniors. It is an absolute nightmare. It is powerful stuff when you have to mess with kids\u2019 dreams,\u201d Georgia coach\u00a0<strong>Jack Bauerle<\/strong>\u00a0said. \u201cIt is like all dressed up and nowhere to go. All the banners were in the pool when we got there, the place looked perfect and then no meet.
