﻿{"id":422632,"date":"2020-03-15T12:10:42","date_gmt":"2020-03-15T19:10:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=422632"},"modified":"2020-03-18T13:48:58","modified_gmt":"2020-03-18T20:48:58","slug":"duncan-scott-goes-48-49-for-second-in-100-free-rankings-on-final-day-of-edinburgh-international","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/duncan-scott-goes-48-49-for-second-in-100-free-rankings-on-final-day-of-edinburgh-international\/","title":{"rendered":"Duncan Scott Goes 48.49 For Third In 100 Free Rankings On Final Day Of Edinburgh International Swim Meet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>These are unsettling times but what does not change is the ability of elite athletes to produce world-class performances in the face of uncertainty.<\/p>\n<p>So it was at the Edinburgh International Swim Meet where <strong>Duncan Scott, Tom Dean, Adam Peaty, Luke Greenbank<\/strong> and <strong>Jacob Peters<\/strong> all stood atop the podium, rankings rattled.<\/p>\n<p><strong>James Guy<\/strong> went 51.84 in the morning heats of the 100 fly before bypassing the final as planned, the focus now on the coming weeks with coach <strong>Dave McNulty<\/strong> at the National Centre Bath.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Molly Renshaw<\/strong> and <strong>Jocelyn Ulyett<\/strong> had a last-length tussle as both women went 2:25 in the 200 breaststroke, <strong>Kathleen Dawson<\/strong> completed a sweep of the backstroke events, <strong>Freya Anderson<\/strong> continued her fine season in the 100 free with <strong>Abbie Wood<\/strong> and <strong>Laura Stephens<\/strong> also taking a trip to the top step.<\/p>\n<p>So too were there some fine junior performances that augur well for the future.<\/p>\n<p>Where to next nobody knows. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/great-britain-olympic-swimming-trials-set-to-be-postponed-as-uk-u-turns-on-mass-gatherings-sports-events\/\">The British Championships, which double as trials for Tokyo 2020, are on the brink of being postponed<\/a> following the UK government\u2019s change of heart on mass gatherings in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/tokyo-2020-olympic-games-will-be-called-off-for-july-if-who-says-it-should-be-says-ioc-boss-thomas-bach\/\">The Olympics is under threat<\/a> with late May the deadline by which the <strong>International Olympic Committee<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Tokyo 2020 Games organisers<\/strong>\u00a0will have to make a decision on whether to proceed, postpone or cancel, says IOC member <strong>Dick Pound<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Health and the safety of all is, of course, the number one priority but what of these athletes in Olympic year?<\/p>\n<h3>Great Scott Rattles Rankings &amp;
