{"id":422540,"date":"2020-03-14T11:22:40","date_gmt":"2020-03-14T18:22:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=422540"},"modified":"2020-03-18T13:50:00","modified_gmt":"2020-03-18T20:50:00","slug":"adam-peaty-unleashes-58-13-100-breaststroke-guy-flies-to-gold-at-edinburgh-international-swim-meet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-unleashes-58-13-100-breaststroke-guy-flies-to-gold-at-edinburgh-international-swim-meet\/","title":{"rendered":"Adam Peaty Unleashes 58.13 100 Breaststroke &#038; Guy Flies To Gold At Edinburgh International Swim Meet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Adam Peaty<\/strong> swam a time only he has bettered with a 100m breaststroke blast of 58.13 at the Edinburgh International Swim Meet.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/great-britain-olympic-swimming-trials-set-to-be-postponed-as-uk-u-turns-on-mass-gatherings-sports-events\/\">Now that the British Olympic trials are likely to be postponed<\/a> in the light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the meet at the Royal Commonwealth Pool may well be the final time many of these swimmers will be in competition for a while.<\/p>\n<p>Whether Peaty will even get the chance to defend his Olympic title in Tokyo in July is questionable given the Games are increasingly under threat.<\/p>\n<p>The world-record holder was out in 27.12 and back in 31.01 ahead of <strong>James Wilby<\/strong> \u2013 who won silver behind Peaty at the 2019 World Championships \u2013 who clocked 59.48 and 2015 world bronze medallist <strong>Ross Murdoch<\/strong> (1:00.48).<\/p>\n<p>It was the fastest time in the world this year, 0.30secs ahead of the 58.43 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/arno-kamminga-on-insane-breaststroke-double-in-antwerp-training-for-an-under-threat-olympics\/\">set by <strong>Arno Kamminga<\/strong> <\/a>of the Netherlands last weekend in Antwerp.<\/p>\n<p>It was also a meet record, Peaty slicing a 0.60 chunk off his own time from last year.<\/p>\n<p>Peaty then posted on social media, saying:<\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed-wrap\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Some great racing from the team tonight, very happy with where I\u2019m at with a 58.13 \ud83d\udc4a\ud83c\udffc Sending all love to everywhere affected by COVID-19, these times are uncertain for all us especially the athletes who train all their lives for one event. She, as is the case with many, now does not know when or if they are going ahead.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Katie Shanahan<\/strong> is right at the start of her career and promises much.
