The 2020 Pac-12 Men\u2019s Championships continued with Friday\u2019s finals session from Federal Way, Washington.<\/p>\n

Stanford had the lead heading into the Friday night, but Cal placed 10 in the A finals for the session. Hugo Gonzalez<\/strong> and Ryan Hoffer<\/strong> started the Golden Bears off with wins on Friday. But it was Reece Whitley<\/strong> who had the big swim of the night, going 50.85 in the 100 breaststroke as Dave Durden<\/strong>‘s Golden Bears won all but one event on the night went from second place to a commanding lead.<\/p>\n

Cal now leads the meet with 576 points. Arizona State is second with 414, followed by Arizona (387), Stanford (385.5), Utah (296) and USC (279.5).<\/p>\n

Pac-12 Men’s Championships: 400 IM<\/h3>\n

Looking to burst into first place, Cal started Friday night strong with a 1-2-3-5 finish in the 400 IM.<\/p>\n

Sophomore Hugo Gonzalez<\/strong> dropped five seconds from his prelims time to win in 3:36.60, finishing five seconds ahead of teammate Jason Louser<\/strong> (3:41.98).<\/p>\n

Cal’s Sean Grieshop<\/strong> was third in 3:42.19, finishing a second ahead of Arizona’s Etay Gurevich<\/strong> (3:43.19).<\/p>\n

Cal’s Chris Jhong<\/strong> took fifth in 3:43.51, ahead of Arizona State’s Benjamin Olszweski<\/strong> (3:44.62), Stanford’s Alex Liang<\/strong> (3:45.28) and Utah’s Jackson<\/strong> Cunningham<\/strong> (3:49.86).<\/p>\n

Pac-12 Men’s Championships: 100 Butterfly<\/h3>\n
Cal’s Ryan Hoffer<\/strong> made it 2-for-2 by winning the 100 butterfly in 44.85, following up his win in the 50 free on Thursday.<\/p>\n
It was another big event for the Golden Bears who went 1-3-4.<\/p>\n
Arizona State’s Cody Bybee<\/strong> was second in 45.19, followed by Cal’s Zheng Quah<\/strong> (45.24) and Pawel Sendyk<\/strong> (45.48).<\/p>\n
Arizona’s Noah Reid<\/strong> took fifth in 46.15, followed by USC’s Nikola Miljenic<\/strong> (46.16), Arizona State’s Evan Carlson (46.24) and Utah’s Ben Waterman<\/strong> (46.48).<\/p>\n

Cal’s Trenton Julian<\/strong> made it three wins in a row for the Golden Bears by winning the 200 free.<\/p>\n
Julian touched the wall in 1:33.17 to hold off a trio of Arizona State Sun Devils.<\/p>\n
ASU freshman Jack Dolan<\/strong> was second in 1:33.99, followed by fellow freshman Julian Hill<\/strong> (1:33.56) and junior Carter Swift<\/strong> (1:33.64).<\/p>\n
Arizona’s Daniel Namir<\/strong> finished fifth in 1:33.96, ahead of teammate Jorge Iga<\/strong> (1:34.12), Arizona State freshman Andrew Gray<\/strong> (1:34.66) and Stanford’s Mason Gonzalez<\/strong> (1:35.84).<\/p>\n

Cal’s Reece Whitley<\/strong> put together a sizzling 100 breaststroke race to win the Pac-12 title.<\/p>\n
Whitley won the race in 50.85, the second-fastest time in the NCAA this season, only behind Minnesota’s Max McHugh<\/strong> (50.67).<\/p>\n
Stanford’s Hank Poppe<\/strong> took second in 52.33, going 2-3 with teammate Brennan Pastorek<\/strong> (52.37).<\/p>\n
Cal’s Karl Arvidsson<\/strong> finished fourth in 52.62, ahead of Utah’s Andrew Britton<\/strong> (52.95) and Jaek Horner<\/strong> (53.14).<\/p>\n
Arizona’s Ty Wells<\/strong> (53.29) and Ryan Foote<\/strong> (53.51) rounded out the top eight.<\/p>\n

Poti touched the wall in 44.98, ahead of Cal’s Daniel Carr<\/strong> (45.18) and Bryce Mefford<\/strong> (46.11).<\/p>\n
Arizona’s Thomas Anderson<\/strong> took fourth in 46.28, followed by Stanford’s Benjamin Ho<\/strong> (46.42), Cal’s Andy Xianyang Song<\/strong> (46.80), Cal’s Ethan Young<\/strong> (46.94) and USC’s Jack Kirby<\/strong> (47.04).<\/p>\n
