The 2020 Pac-12 Men\u2019s Championships continued with the finals session on Thursday.<\/p>\n

After the relay disqualification on the first night, defending NCAA champion Cal had its work cut out.<\/p>\n

But the Golden Bears earned two 1-2-3 sweeps on Thursday to bounce back. They still aren’t winning the meet, but are right on Stanford’s heels.<\/p>\n

Pac-12 Men’s Championships: 500 Free<\/h2>\n
After a smooth prelims swim to earn the top seed, Stanford’s Grant Shoults<\/strong> picked up the pace in the finals of the 500 freestyle, earning the Pac-12 title in the event in 4:12.15.<\/p>\n
He dropped three seconds from his prelims time and was able to hold off a late-charging Trenton Julian<\/strong> of Cal, who took second in 4:12.77.<\/p>\n
Arizona’s Brooks Fail<\/strong> finished third in 4:13.08, ahead of Arizona State’s Benjamin Olszewski<\/strong> (4:14.38).<\/p>\n
Cal’s Sean Grieshop<\/strong> also moved up from the morning and finished fifth in 4:14.57, followed by Arizona State’s Liam Bresette<\/strong> (4:15.21), Julian Hill<\/strong> (4:16.95) and Cal’s Calvin David<\/strong> (4:22.05).<\/p>\n

Pac-12 Men’s Championships: 200 IM<\/h3>\n
Cal’s Daniel Carr<\/strong> went a sub-1:42 to win the 200 IM and lead a 1-2-3 finish for the Golden Bears.<\/p>\n
Car won the event in 1:41.79, followed by teammates Zheng Quah<\/strong> (1:42.93) and Bryce Mefford<\/strong> (1:43.57).<\/p>\n
Arizona’s Etay Gurevich<\/strong> took fourth in 1:43.79, followed by Stanford’s Brennan Pastorek<\/strong> (1:44.02) and Alex Liang<\/strong> (1:44.14).<\/p>\n
A fourth Cal swimmer finaled as Reece Whitley<\/strong> finished seventh in 1:44.23, holding off Arizona’s Sam Iida<\/strong> (1:45.69).<\/p>\n

Pac-12 Men’s Championships: 50 Free<\/h3>\n
Cal went 1-2-3 for a second straight event as the sprinters dominated the 50 free.<\/p>\n
Defending NCAA champion Ryan Hoffer<\/strong> won the race in 18.87 as Pawel Sendyk<\/strong> was also under 19 seconds, finishing second in 18.91.<\/p>\n
Michael Jensen<\/strong> went a 19.38 to finish third and cap the 1-2-3 sweep for the Golden Bears.<\/p>\n
Arizona’s Marin Ercegovic<\/strong> finished fourth in 19.41, followed by USC’s Nikolas Miljenic<\/strong> (19.48) and Arizona State’s Evan Carlson<\/strong> (19.50), Cody Bybee<\/strong> (19.52) and Jack Dolan<\/strong> (19.52), the latter duo tying for seventh.<\/p>\n

Pac-12 Men’s Championships: 200 Free Relay<\/h3>\n
After going 1-2-3 in the 50 freestyle, it was no surprise that Cal won the 200 free relay.<\/p>\n
But the Bears did so in record fashion as Pawel Sendyk, Ryan Hoffer, Michael Jensen<\/strong> and Zheng Quah<\/strong> won the race in 1:15.54 to break the Pac-12 meet record, which was previously held by Stanford in 2009.<\/p>\n
Arizona finished second (1:16.33) behind Marin Ercegovic, Thomas Anderson, Jorge Iga<\/strong> and Noah Reid<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
Arizona State’s Carter Swift, Evan Carlson, Cody Bybee<\/strong> and Jack Dolan<\/strong> took third in 1:16.79.<\/p>\n
