And if that needed further illustration, a B final at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2020-tyr-pro-swim-series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TYR Pro Swim Series<\/a> stop in Des Moines that features four Olympians should do the trick Thursday night.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Zach Apple<\/strong> grabbed the top seed in the 100 free in 48.93, with <strong>Ryan Held<\/strong> (49.21) second and <strong>Marius Kusch<\/strong> (49.35) third. Also in the mix are American relay contenders <strong>Dean Farris<\/strong> in fourth and <strong>Blake Pieroni<\/strong> in fifth.<\/p>\n<p>But missing the A final were world-record holder <strong>Caeleb Dressel,<\/strong> who finished 11th in prelims in 49.89. In 12th place was <strong>Nathan Adrian,<\/strong> who went 49.99. Also in the B final are two Olympians swimming outside their wheelhouse, with <strong>Ryan Murphy<\/strong> 15th in 50.05 and <strong>Townley Hass<\/strong> 16th in 50.06.<\/p>\n<p>Further down the standings are old hands <strong>Tom Shields<\/strong> (20th) and, in a tie for 26th, <strong>Giles Smith<\/strong> and <strong>Ryan Lochte<\/strong> in 50.99.<\/p>\n<h4>TYR Pro Swim Series, Des Moines<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/tyr-pro-series-katie-ledecky-pops-fifth-fastest-1500-free-in-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Night 1: TYR Pro Series: Katie Ledecky Pops Fifth-Fastest 1500 Free in History<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swmeets.com\/Realtime\/Pro%20Series\/2020\/DesMoines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Live Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usaswimming.org\/docs\/default-source\/eventsdocuments\/guides\/2019-2020-tyr-pro-swim-series\/tyr-pro-swim-series-at-des-moines\/thursday-finals-heat-sheet.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Evening Heat Sheets<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other events from the second day and first morning session of the meet:<\/p>\n<p>In the women\u2019s 100 freestyle, <strong>Simone Manuel<\/strong> took the top seed in 54.04, exactly two seconds back of her world record. <strong>Siobhan Haughey<\/strong> was second in 54.10 with <strong>Mallory Comerford<\/strong> third (54.16). Relay contenders <strong>Catie DeLoof, Margo Geer, Allison Schmitt<\/strong> and <strong>Olivia Smoliga<\/strong> also landed in the A final.<\/p>\n<p>In the women\u2019s 100 breaststroke, <strong>Lilly King<\/strong> has the third seed in finals, going 1:07.22 in the morning. The top seed goes to <strong>Molly Hannis<\/strong> in 1:06.86 with <strong>Annie Lazor<\/strong> second (1:07.15). With <strong>Madisyn Cox, Melanie Margalis, Breeja Larson<\/strong> and <strong>Bethany Galat<\/strong> in the A final, it\u2019s a nice teaser for trials.<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, the men\u2019s 100 breast is full of stalwarts. <strong>Michael Andrew<\/strong> was the only one to break a minute in the morning at 59.83 for the top seed. The veteran cast of <strong>Andrew Wilson, Kevin Cordes, Nic Fink<\/strong> and <strong>Cody Miller<\/strong> comprise the rest of the top 5.<\/p>\n<p>In the women\u2019s 200 butterfly, <strong>Hali Flickinger<\/strong> came within .02 of <strong>Cammile Adams\u2019<\/strong> Pro Swim Series record, clocking in at 2:06.78 to grab the top seed. She was more than two seconds quicker than <strong>Regan Smith<\/strong> in what might become a two-person duel in the final. Third was 16-year-old <strong>Justina Kozan<\/strong> of Break Aquatics in 2:09.92.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chase Kalisz<\/strong> is the top seed in the finals of the men\u2019s 200 fly, swimming 1:57.64 in the morning. Second is <strong>Gunnar Bentz<\/strong> in 1:58.53. <strong>Zach Harting, Jack Conger<\/strong> and <strong>Jay Litherland<\/strong> also broke the two-minute barrier.<\/p>\n<p>The women\u2019s 400 freestyle is <strong>Katie Ledecky\u2019s<\/strong> to lose, the 22-year-old following Monday night\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/tyr-pro-series-katie-ledecky-pops-fifth-fastest-1500-free-in-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">domination in the 1,500<\/a> by going 4:05.26 Thursday. She\u2019s the top seed by more than six seconds. Second is <strong>Kaersten Meitz<\/strong> of Boilermaker Aquatic in 4:11.39, with Schmitt, Haughey and <strong>Leah Smith<\/strong> also under 4:13 (though Smith scratched the 400 free at night to swim the 200 fly, where she&#8217;s in teh B final). <strong>Ally McHugh,<\/strong> who has a 4:07 under her belt, is seventh, while Margalis got into the A final after scratches at 4:20.01.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marwan El Kamash<\/strong> is the top seed in the men\u2019s 400 free in a time of 3:53.28. The top four seeds are clustered within a second, with <strong>Zane Grothe, Arik Katz<\/strong> and <strong>Nick Norman<\/strong> following, then Gator Swim Club\u2019s <strong>Mitch D\u2019Arrigo<\/strong> and <strong>True Sweetser<\/strong> another second back. Outside the A final are Lochte (10th, 3:57.75), <strong>Jordan Wilimovsky<\/strong> (12th in 3:57.63) and <strong>Andrew Seliskar<\/strong> (13th in 3:57.90).
