This is the final night of the MAC Women\u2019s championship in Buffalo. Currently, the team battle is between Akron and Buffalo but there\u2019s plenty of points to be scored tonight for Buffalo to attempt an upset. The schedule for this evening is as follows: 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly, 3-Meter Dive and the 400 Freestyle Relay.<\/p>\n

MAC Women’s Swimming Championship: 1650 Freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n

This morning, Alyssa Shugarman<\/strong> from Eastern Michigan took the win in the 1650 Freestyle, the longest event on the program. She went 16:29.68 to win over <\/span>Brittney Beetcher<\/strong> (16:32.49) from Buffalo. Taking third was <\/span>Savanna Mouat<\/strong> from Eastern Michigan in 16:35.44.<\/span><\/p>\n

MAC Women\u2019s Swimming Championship: 200 Backstroke<\/strong><\/p>\n

19-year old Daisy Platts<\/strong> started the evening with a win in the 200 Back for Bowling Green State University. She swam a 1:54.45 and was the only swimmer to break 1:55. Claire Young<\/strong> from Eastern Michigan swam a 1:55.34 for second followed by Weronika Gorecka<\/strong> from Akron in 1:55.82.<\/p>\n

MAC Women\u2019s Swimming Championship: 100 Freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n

Akron stole the show in the 100 Free with a 1-2 finish from Sarah Watson<\/strong> (48.91) and Morgan Waggoner<\/strong> (49.50). Watson, the young gun, broke 49 seconds beating her teammate by over half of a second. Toni Naccarella<\/strong> from Buffalo took third, missing a second place finish by .02 seconds. Equally impressive was that both Buffalo, with four, and Akron, with three, put seven swimmers into the A-final between them.<\/p>\n

MAC Women\u2019s Swimming Championship: 200 Breaststroke<\/strong><\/p>\n

In another feat of dominance, Akron went 1-2 in the 200 Breaststroke. Paula Garcia<\/strong> swam a 2:10.68 for first with her teammate, Andrea Fischer<\/strong>, taking second with 2:12.04. Coming in third over a second behind Fischer was Emilia Lahtinen<\/strong> from Ohio University in 2:13.26.<\/p>\n

MAC Women\u2019s Swimming Championship: 200 Butterfly<\/strong><\/p>\n

Just when you thought that they were done dominating, Akron did it again in the 200 Butterfly. They went 1-2-3, delivering a flurry of points in the team race. Paulina Nogaj<\/strong> swam 1:57.45 to win the event outright by over a second. Her teammates, Mackenzie Vargas<\/strong> (1:58.73) and Jessica Bonezzi<\/strong> (1:58.81), were both in the 1:58s for second and third place. Like the 100 Freestyle, both Buffalo and Akron put an impressive seven swimmers into the A-final.<\/p>\n

MAC Women\u2019s Swimming Championship: 3-Meter Dive<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the last diving event of the meet, Talisa Lemke<\/strong> from Bowling Green took the win with a final score of 351.36. Sophia Tsafantakis<\/strong> from Eastern Michigan scored a 302.22, followed by Tori Franz<\/strong> of Buffalo with 287.85.<\/p>\n

MAC Women\u2019s Swimming Championship: 400 Freestyle Relay<\/strong><\/p>\n

The final race of the night went to Akron. Leading off, Sarah Watson<\/strong> repeated her feat of a sub 49-second swim, going 48.91, the exact time she swam to win the 100 Freestyle. Watson teamed with Morgan Waggoner<\/strong> (48.78), Sofia Heneli<\/strong> (49.28) and Paulina Nogaj<\/strong> (48.84) for a stunning performance of 3:15.81. Not far off was Buffalo, swimming a very strong 3:17.42 for second. Buffalo and Akron were the only two teams under 3:20. The University of Toledo went 3:21.97 for third.<\/p>\n

Team Standings<\/strong><\/p>\n

Akron absolutely ran away with the win for the team title. They scored 811.5 compared to the 738.5 from the second place team from Buffalo. In a very distant third was Eastern Michigan who scored 485.<\/p>\n
