{"id":420054,"date":"2020-03-01T03:30:13","date_gmt":"2020-03-01T10:30:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=420054"},"modified":"2020-03-01T07:58:42","modified_gmt":"2020-03-01T14:58:42","slug":"usc-sprints-to-1-2-4-finish-in-100-free-sends-coach-dave-salo-out-on-high-note","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/usc-sprints-to-1-2-4-finish-in-100-free-sends-coach-dave-salo-out-on-high-note\/","title":{"rendered":"USC Sprints to 1-2-4 Finish in 100 Free, Sends Coach Dave Salo Out on High Note"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>USC sprinters <strong>Laticia Transom, Marta Ciesla<\/strong> and <strong>Tatum Wade<\/strong> made their move at the 2020 Pac-12 Women&#8217;s Championships on Saturday night, and sent coach <strong>Dave Salo<\/strong> out with a huge final night to his Pac-12 career.<\/p>\n<p>The meet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2020-pac-12-womens-championships-day-4-finals-live-recap\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">may have gone to Stanford<\/a>, but the 100 free went to the Trojans.<\/p>\n<p>Transom claimed the top spot with a time of 47.85, leading a 1-2-4 finish.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHonestly, it was kind of unexpected. This whole week has been really cool. I\u2019m super happy to be here and swim well for my team,\u201d Laticia Transom told <em>Swimming World<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Coming in right behind Transom was Ciesla with a time of 48.02, followed by Stanford swimmer <strong>Amalie Fackenthal<\/strong> (with a time of 48.19), and in fourth with a 48.35 was Wade.<\/p>\n<p>All three USC girls said the excitement and fun of the race was boosted by their close bonds to one another. As Ciesla said, \u201cAll three of us being in the same final was really telling of how hard we work and how hard we\u2019ve been working this season. Photo Courtesy: McKenna Ehrmantraut<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Wade agreed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all train together, we work hard together, we have fun together, and we get to swim the final together,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The USC team placed third overall, which is quite a feat considering they only have 16 swimmers \u2014 eight short of the maximum 24 swimmers a team can bring to PAC-12s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think in terms of the team standing, considering that we have a small team we try not to focus on the overall standing a lot, and focus more on the individual performances. We focus more on how we can amp up the team morale and better the team energy,\u201d Transom said.<\/p>\n<p>Ciesla, Transom, and Wade swam not only for their team tonight, but also for one of their coaches, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/dave-salo-announces-this-is-his-last-season-as-southern-cal-head-coach\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Dave Salo<\/strong><\/a>, who announced this would be his last season coaching for the University of Southern California. Ciesla said after the race, \u201cWe just know we wanted to do it for Dave, it\u2019s his last season so it was super exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While NCAAs is coming up, it was the last PAC 12 for both Coach Salo and Wade.
