On night 3 of the women\u2019s Mid-American Conference Championships, Buffalo has a shot to overtake Akron in the team race. Tonight is loaded with individual events including the 100 Butterfly, 400 IM, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Backstroke and the 400 Medley Relay.<\/p>\n

MAC Women\u2019s Swimming Championships: 100 Butterfly<\/strong><\/p>\n

Paulina Nogaj<\/strong> (52.42) of Akron fought for the win in the 100 Butterfly. She touched first by 0.51 seconds over her teammate Sarah Watson<\/strong> (52.93). Watson went out very hard, touching in 24.49 at the 50-yard mark. But Nogaj came back strong to overtake her teammate for the win, splitting 27.65 on the back end to Watson\u2019s 28.44. Meanwhile, the battle for third ended in a tie at 53.91 seconds between Sarah Hennings of Bowling Green and Andrea Ernst from Buffalo.<\/p>\n

MAC Women\u2019s Swimming Championships: 400 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the 400 IM, Buffalo wrote a story similar to Akron in the 100 Butterfly. Brittney Beecher<\/strong> (4:14.40) and Olivia Sapio<\/strong> (4:14.45) went 1-2 for Buffalo scoring big points for the team race. Their race, 4 times the length of the 100 Fly, came down to a very tight margin of .05 seconds between first and second. Taking third was Jessica Bonezzi<\/strong> from Akron in 4:16.83. Ohio University spoiled Akron\u2019s chance at 3-4 as Sam Glass<\/strong> (4:18.48) and Katie Garrity<\/strong> (4:19.26) went 4-5 for them.<\/p>\n

MAC Women\u2019s Swimming Championships: 200 Freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n

Camila Lins de Mello<\/strong> from Miami University, Ohio, buried the field tonight in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:45.96. She blew away the field by almost two seconds with second place going to Izzy Jones<\/strong> (1:47.72). Emma Fortman<\/strong> from Ohio University almost caught Jones by swimming a time of 1:47.81.<\/p>\n

MAC Women\u2019s Swimming Championships: 100 Breaststroke<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 100 Breastroke went to Paula Garcia<\/strong> from Akron in a time of 1:00.32. Not far behind, Katie Pollock<\/strong> from Buffalo took second in 1:00.78. Pollock led at the 50-yard mark, going out hard in 28.43, but Garcia overtook her, coming home strong in 31.53 over Pollock\u2019s 32.35. Also from Akron, Andrea Sicher<\/strong> came in third, swimming 1:01.37.<\/p>\n

MAC Women\u2019s Swimming Championships: 100 Backstroke<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 100 Backstroke went to Daisy Platts<\/strong> from Bowling Green. Platts, the only swimmer under 53 seconds, swam a 52.87 for the win. Claire Young<\/strong> from Eastern Michigan took second in 53.49 while Nicole Roitenberg<\/strong> of Buffalo went 53.75 for third. It\u2019s worth noting that Eastern Michigan placed three swimmers in the A-final of the 100 Backstroke tonight, outnumbering any other team in the field.<\/p>\n

MAC Women\u2019s Swimming Championships: 400 Medley Relay<\/strong><\/p>\n

To close out the night, Akron stole the 400 Medley Relay by over 3 seconds in a time of 3:35.13. The set of Weronika Gorecka<\/strong> (54.07), Paula Garcia<\/strong> (1:00.39), Paulina Nogaj<\/strong> (51.79) and Morgan Waggoner<\/strong> (48.88) demolished the field. Buffalo came in second with 3:38.33 and Bowling Green managed third with 3:41.19.<\/p>\n

After tonight, Akron (524) has run away with the lead in the team race with Buffalo pursuing with 450 points. Eastern Michigan is holding a firm third with 312 over Miami University, Ohio, which has 285.<\/p>\n
