Night three of the 2020 Ivy League men’s swimming and diving championships got underway in Cambridge, Mass with Harvard and Princeton locked in a tight battle for the team title. Today’s events included the timed final 1000 freestyle, 400 Individual Medley, 100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Backstroke, and 400 Medley Relay.<\/p>\n

    Men’s 1000 Freestyle – Timed Final<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Harvard freshman\u00a0Cole Kuster<\/strong> added to his win in the 500 yesterday by winning a close 1000 . Leading by almost 1.5 seconds at 950 yards, he held off a hard charge from Dylan Porges\u00a0<\/strong>of Princeton to win 8:57.24 to 8:57.68. The 500 runnerup Connor LaMastra\u00a0<\/strong>of Dartmouth claimed third in 9:02.23.<\/p>\n

    Men’s 400 Individual Medley<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Raunak Khosla<\/strong> completed the IM sweep here in the longer distance, just missing the meet record with a 3:41.75.\u00a0Michael Zarian\u00a0<\/strong>of Harvard finished a distant second in 3:46.77, with\u00a0Ben Hayes\u00a0<\/strong>of Brown coming in behind at 3:50.11.<\/p>\n

    Jason\u00a0Schreiber\u00a0<\/strong>(3:52.54) won the B final for Penn, and\u00a0Joe Moll<\/strong> swam a 3:52.04 to grab the C final.<\/p>\n

    Men’s 100 Butterfly<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Harvard sophomore\u00a0Umit Gures\u00a0<\/strong>dominated this short sprint, swimming a 45.27 to take the win over Yale’s\u00a0Connor Lee<\/strong> (46.12).\u00a0Jonas Kistorp\u00a0<\/strong>took third for Columbia with a 46.53.<\/p>\n

    Cornell’s\u00a0James Huang<\/strong> won the B final in 47.64, with\u00a0Matt Luciano<\/strong> and\u00a0Ray Yang\u00a0<\/strong>tying for the C final win (48.71).<\/p>\n

    Men’s 200 Freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Corban Rawls<\/strong> of Harvard battled\u00a0Nianguo Liu<\/strong> of Columbia and\u00a0Michael\u00a0Lincoln\u00a0<\/strong>of Brown in the final of the 200 free. Ultimately, Rawls (1:34.57) took the win ahead of Liu (1:34.98) and Lincoln (1:35.09).<\/p>\n

    Alex Smilenov<\/strong>, a senior from Brown, won the B final in 1:36.85. Nathaniel Cunnan<\/strong> (1:39.07) took top honors in the C final for Penn.<\/p>\n

    Men’s 100 Breaststroke<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Derek Cox\u00a0<\/strong>of Princeton earned first place in the 100 breast with his time of 53.37. It was enough to beat\u00a0Charles Vaughan\u00a0<\/strong>of Harvard (53.84) and\u00a0Corey Lau<\/strong> of Princeton (53.87), though not by a large margin.<\/p>\n

    Freshman\u00a0Michael Chang<\/strong> of Columbia won the B final in 54.44, a time that would’ve finished fifth in the A final. Yale junior\u00a0Sam Pekarak<\/strong> (55.14) won the C final.<\/p>\n

    Men’s 100 Backstroke<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Cornell freshman\u00a0Paige Dacosta\u00a0<\/strong>swam a 46.52 to win the 100 back, beating out fellow freshman\u00a0Gunner Grant<\/strong> of Harvard and his 46.89. Third place went to Columbia’s\u00a0Cole Stevens<\/strong> (47.14).<\/p>\n

    Back in the pool to complete the 100 fly-100 back double was Columbia’s Kistorp, who won the B final in 48.44. Joon Sung<\/strong> of Brown grabbed the C final win in 48.87.<\/p>\n

    Men’s 400 Medley Relay<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The Columbia quartet of\u00a0Stevens (47.20), Liu (52.89), Kistorp (45.92), and\u00a0Albert Gwo<\/strong> (42.30) emerged victorious in the medley relay with a time of 3:08.31, ahead of Harvard’s 3:09.09 and Cornell’s 3:11.62. Fourth went to Yale, followed by Brown, Princeton, Penn, and Dartmouth.<\/p>\n
