NOTRE DAME, Ind., Oct. 5. THE Notre Dame men's and women's swimming and diving team swept all but two events Friday at the 2002 Notre Dame Relays held at the Rolfs Aquatic Center today. <\/p>\n
In the team race, the Notre Dame men finished first with 220 points, Wisconsin-Milwaukee was second with 158 points followed by Valparaiso with 112 points and Marquette with 74 points. <\/p>\n
In the women's team competition, the Irish finished first with 220 points, followed by Illinois State (166), Wisconsin-Milwaukee (138), Valparaiso (112), Saint Mary's (84) and Marquette (60).<\/p>\n
The men's team won 12 events tonight, losing only the 800 freestyle after being disqualified. The Irish opened with a win in the 200 free relay as Jason Fitzpatrick, Tim Randolph, Frank Krakowski and Drew
\nPittman were first in 1:27.39. <\/p>\n
In the 400 medley relay, the team of Doug Bauman, Tyler Grenda, Patrick Heffernan and David Moisan were first in 3:33.46. Grenda then won his second race of the night swimming the second leg of the 400 individual medley relay with Josh Dermott, Travis Kline and Jamie Lutkus in a time of 3:48.02. <\/p>\n
The men also went on to win the 500 freestyle crescendo relay, the 400 butterfly relay, the 400 backstroke relay, the 400 breaststroke relay, the 1,000 freestyle relay, the 200 medley relay, the 400 freestyle relay and the three-meter synchronized diving event.<\/p>\n
On the women's side, Notre Dame won all the races but the 500 freestyle crescendo relay after being disqualified. The 200 free relay of Heidi Hendrick, Courtney Campbell, Kalei Walker and Laurie Musgrave was first in 1:39.39. <\/p>\n
The highlight of the evening though occurred in the 400
\nindividual medley relay as the team of Hendrick, Amy Deger, Marie Labosky and Lisa Garcia set a new meet record in a time of 4:00.29, breaking the previous mark of 4:01.65 set last year. <\/p>\n
The women also won the 400 medley relay, the 800 freestyle relay, the 400-yard butterfly relay, the 400 backstroke relay, the 400 breaststroke relay, the 1000
\nfreestyle relay, the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay. <\/p>\n
The Irish diving tandem of Kristina Kennedy and Chrissy Habeeb also won the three-meter synchronized diving event with 212.20 points.<\/p>\n
The Irish men's swimming and diving team will play host to Kalamazoo on Oct. 11, while the women are off until Oct. 18 when they swim against Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
