On the boys side, Los Alamos secured their first state title since 2005 with 377 points to edge out Albuquerque Academy (372).<\/p>\n<p>Click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/2020-new-mexico-state-championships\/high-school\/2020\/February\/21?rtn=%2Fresults%2Fhigh-school\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HERE<\/a> for full results and team scores.<\/p>\n<h1>Girls Meet<\/h1>\n<h2>Top 5 Team Scores:<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Albuquerque Academy \u2013 390<\/li>\n<li>Eldorado \u2013 220<\/li>\n<li>Clovis \u2013 196<\/li>\n<li>La Cueva \u2013 176<\/li>\n<li>Albuquerque \u2013 163<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Albuquerque Academy began their winning ways as\u00a0<strong>Coralie Norenberg\u00a0<\/strong>(27.78),\u00a0<strong>Asiana Lee\u00a0<\/strong>(31.29),\u00a0<strong>Sowang Kundeling\u00a0<\/strong>(26.59), and\u00a0<strong>Sofia Taylor\u00a0<\/strong>(24.66) won the opening 4&#215;50 medley relay in 1:50.32. Taylor (25.36),\u00a0<strong>MacKenzie Jarrell\u00a0<\/strong>(24.87), Kundeling (25.05) and\u00a0<strong>Allison Bernier\u00a0<\/strong>(23.84) won the 4&#215;50 free relay in 1:39.12.<\/p>\n<p>HOPE-DA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Reese Hinnerichs\u00a0<\/strong>cruised to first in the 200 free, stopping the clock in 1:52.09 for the first state title of her career. The freshman made a name for herself during the meet as she also won the 500 free by three seconds in a final time of 5:01.85 ahead of defending champion Bernier(5:04.64).<\/p>\n<p>After finishing second on the one-meter board last year, Albuquerque\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Nadine Coulie\u00a0<\/strong>dove to the top spot this season after posting a final score of 471.95 points. La Cueva\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Hannah Meek\u00a0<\/strong>sprinted to first in the 100 free in 52.34, just ahead of runner-up\u00a0<strong>Sophia Gossum\u00a0<\/strong>(52.98) of Santa Fe Prep. Gossum also finished second in the 50 free (24.41).<\/p>\n<p>Sandia\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Fiona Trotz-Chavez\u00a0<\/strong>flew to first in the 100 fly, touching the wall in 57.82 as the first of only three swimmers in the field to dip under the 60-second marker. SPRP&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emma Kelly\u00a0<\/strong>powered home in 58.42 to win the 100 back, besting 2019 event winner Trotz-Chavez who took a close second in 58.67.<\/p>\n<p>Eldorado\u2019s <strong>Emma Gehlert\u00a0<\/strong>won the 200 IM in a final time of 2:07.08, just off the 2:05.78 she posted during prelims. She also won the 100 breast in 1:04.02 while her sister <strong>Grace Gehlert <\/strong>splashed-and-dashed her way to the gold medal in the 50 free, clocking in with a quick 24.33.<\/p>\n<p>Eldorado&#8217;s\u00a0E. Gehlert (53.08),\u00a0<strong>Randi Peters\u00a0<\/strong>(56.70),\u00a0<strong>Brynn Quintana\u00a0<\/strong>(54.29), and G. Gehlert (52.53) won the 4&#215;100 free relay in 3:36.60. Albuquerque Academy finished second in the closing relay en route to clinching the championship crown.<\/p>\n<h1>Boys Meet<\/h1>\n<h2>Top 5 Team Scores:<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Los Alamos \u2013 377<\/li>\n<li>Albuquerque Academy \u2013 372<\/li>\n<li>La Cueva \u2013 246<\/li>\n<li>Eldorado \u2013 232<\/li>\n<li>Cleveland \u2013 153<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>La Cueva&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Mario Sumali\u00a0<\/strong>(24.64),\u00a0<strong>Henri Li\u00a0<\/strong>(27.15),\u00a0<strong>Quanwei Lei\u00a0<\/strong>(23.50), and\u00a0<strong>Greyson Ulibarri\u00a0<\/strong>(21.41) began the boys&#8217; meet by winning the 4&#215;50 medley relay in a combined time of 1:36.70. Sumali then went on to win the 100 back after powering home in 52.00 for the victory.<\/p>\n<p>Cibola\u2019s <strong>Jamin Harlan\u00a0<\/strong>cruised to first in the 200 free, stopping the clock in 1:41.27 to out-touch runner-up\u00a0<strong>Orion Henderson\u00a0<\/strong>(1:41.61) of Los Alamos. Las Cruces&#8217; <strong>Asa Mynatt\u00a0<\/strong>sprinted to the gold medal in the 100 free with a time of 47.01, just ahead of runner-up Harlan (47.24). Henderson later won the 500 free, dropping six seconds from his prelims time to win in 4:38.42.<\/p>\n<p>Albuquerque Academy&#8217;s <strong>Jack Hand\u00a0<\/strong>dominated the 200 IM, winning by three seconds in a final time of 1:53.37 &#8211; four seconds off his prelims time of 1:49.38. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/arizona-scores-verbal-from-breaststroker-imer-jake-hand-of-charger-aquatics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">soon-to-be Arizona Wildcat<\/a> also won the 100 breast in 56.43 as the first of four swimmers under the minute-marker.<\/p>\n<p>Eldorado\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Darien O\u2019Donnell\u00a0<\/strong>splashed-and-dashed his way to the wall in a quick 21.08 to win the 50 free. Shortly after, he was back in the water to win the 100 fly for the second-consecutive season after getting his hands to the wall the quickest with a final time of 50.66. His teammate Newton\u00a0dove to first on the 1-meter board for the second year in a row with a final score of 624.65, which was good enough to break the pool record of 567.60 he set at this meet last season as well as set a new overall state record.<\/p>\n<p>Albuquerque Academy&#8217;s\u00a0Hand (21.15),\u00a0<strong>Ethan Fricke\u00a0<\/strong>(22.25),\u00a0<strong>Aidan McKinley\u00a0<\/strong>(21.67), and\u00a0<strong>Sam Papenguth\u00a0<\/strong>(21.35) joined forces to win the 4&#215;50 free relay in 1:26.42.
