Kate Douglass<\/strong> got Day 2 of the ACC Championships off to a flying start in the women\u2019s 200 individual medley, and it\u2019s likely that she\u2019s got more to offer for finals.<\/p>\n

Douglass grabbed the top seed with a meet record 1:53.90 in prelims Thursday. It\u2019s more than a second off the star freshman\u2019s season best of 1:52.84, which is an NCAA A cut and the conference record. The time erases the meet record set by NC State\u2019s Alexia Zevnik<\/strong> in 2017 (1:54.44), and Douglass could make a run Thursday night at the Greensboro Aquatic Club mark set by Missy Franklin<\/strong> in 2015 (1:52.11).<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a perfect encapsulation of how the team standings battle is shaping up: Virginia has the top two spots, but NC State stuffed the A final with four swimmers. Paige Madden<\/strong> is the top seed in 4:40.93, with Maddie Donohoe<\/strong> (4:42.68) a spot back. But NC State\u2019s Makayla Sargent<\/strong> leads four Wolfpack swimmers in third place. Mackenzie Glover<\/strong> is in line for big bonus points by edging out a crowd for eighth, with UNC\u2019s Bryanna Cameron<\/strong> and Sophie Cattermole<\/strong> of Louisville tied for ninth in .12 behind her and UVA\u2019s Emma Seiberlich<\/strong> in 11th .17 back.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s again a 1-2 UVA finish with Douglass tops and Abigail Richter<\/strong> (1:55.53) second. The Cavs’ Margaret Nelson<\/strong> was also one of four swimmers to finish in 1:55 to get into finals in fifth. NC State\u2019s answer has Julia Poole<\/strong> fourth and Emma Muzzy<\/strong> eighth. But three B finalists and two C finalists give the Wolfpack strength in numbers.<\/p>\n

The field is chasing Duke senior Alyssa Marsh<\/strong>, who finished fifth last year and is the top seed for finals in 21.78 seconds. Second is NC State\u2019s Kylee Alons<\/strong> (21.85), and Casey Franz<\/strong> (21.89) of Louisville also cracked 22.<\/p>\n
The top seed in prelims, Morgan Hill<\/strong> of Virginia, is the fifth seed, a spot behind NC State\u2019s Ky-Lee Perry.<\/strong> That duo went 1-2 at last year’s ACC Championships, separated by .01.<\/p>\n
Three A finalists from last year \u2013 UNC\u2019s Grace Countie,<\/strong> NC State\u2019s Sirena Rowe<\/strong> and Louisville Jillian Visscher<\/strong> \u2013 are in the B final.<\/p>\n
