SEC Swimming and Diving Championships<\/em><\/p>\n

Auburn, Alabama 2020<\/em><\/p>\n

The Wednesday night finals session of the 2020 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships had the finals of the 200 free relay, 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, and men’s 1m diving.<\/p>\n

An NCAA record fell on night two to Florida’s\u00a0Kieran Smith\u00a0<\/strong>in the 500 freestyle as he lowered it by two seconds and was also one second under the American record as well.<\/p>\n

Tennessee’s\u00a0Erika Brown\u00a0<\/strong>won the 50 freestyle to move to second all-time, and Texas A&M’s\u00a0Shaine Casas\u00a0<\/strong>broke 1:40 for the first time in winning the 200 IM final.<\/p>\n

Georgia’s\u00a0Courtney Harnish<\/strong>, Tennessee’s\u00a0Meghan Small<\/strong> and Alabama’s\u00a0Zane Waddell\u00a0<\/strong>also won individual events on Wednesday night in Auburn, Alabama.<\/p>\n

Women’s 200 Free Relay<\/h3>\n
Using a tremendous second leg from senior\u00a0Claire Fisch<\/strong>, Auburn won the women’s 200 free relay to open up the second night of the 2020 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships in their home pool. Fisch split a 20.99 as she paved the way for freshman\u00a0AJ Kutsch\u00a0<\/strong>(21.15) and senior\u00a0Robyn Clevenger\u00a0<\/strong>(21.62) on the back half to give the Tigers the 1:25.41 victory and a new SEC meet record. Senior\u00a0Julie Meynen\u00a0<\/strong>(21.65) led off the Tigers’ relay.<\/p>\n
Tennessee got off to a quick start with\u00a0Erika Brown\u00a0<\/strong>leading off in 21.15, not far off the NCAA record of 20.8 set earlier this season. Brown gave way to\u00a0Stanzi Moseley\u00a0<\/strong>(22.14),\u00a0Meghan Small\u00a0<\/strong>(21.46) and\u00a0Bailey Grinter\u00a0<\/strong>(21.40) as the Vols finished in second at 1:26.15, under their SEC meet record from last year.<\/p>\n
Missouri’s team of\u00a0Megan Keil\u00a0<\/strong>(22.090,\u00a0Haley Hynes\u00a0<\/strong>(22.07),\u00a0Amy Feddersen\u00a0<\/strong>(22.23) and\u00a0Sarah Thompson\u00a0<\/strong>(21.31) finished third at 1:27.70.<\/p>\n
The quickest splits outside the top three came from Arkansas’\u00a0Anna Hopkin\u00a0<\/strong>(20.27), Alabama’s\u00a0Morgan Scott\u00a0<\/strong>(21.50), Georgia’s\u00a0Veronica Burchill\u00a0<\/strong>(21.71) and Florida’s\u00a0Sherridon Dressel\u00a0<\/strong>(21.75).<\/p>\n
Arkansas (1:27.93), Alabama (1:27.98), Florida (1:28.13), Georgia (1:28.28) and South Carolina (1:28.44) also placed in the top eight.<\/p>\n
Hopkin’s split was the fastest all-time.<\/p>\n

The team of\u00a0Tyler Sesvold\u00a0<\/strong>(19.33),\u00a0Zane Waddell\u00a0<\/strong>(18.60),\u00a0Jonathan Berneburg\u00a0<\/strong>(19.09) and\u00a0Sam DiSette\u00a0<\/strong>(18.98) won the title ahead of Florida (1:16.33) and Texas A&M (1:16.57).<\/p>\nAlabama doesn’t have the depth to compete for the team title but they have the sprint relays that will keep them near the top.<\/p>\nFlorida’s team of\u00a0Eric Friese\u00a0<\/strong>(19.60),\u00a0Kieran Smith\u00a0<\/strong>(18.98),\u00a0Will Davis\u00a0<\/strong>(18.66) and\u00a0Isaac Davis\u00a0<\/strong>(19.09) finished in second and nearly stole the relay from lane seven. She finished ahead of Kentucky’s\u00a0Ali Galyer\u00a0<\/strong>(4:38.40), who swam on the outside in lane 1.<\/p>\nThe race was dominated by the outside lanes as Alabama sophomore\u00a0Kensey McMahon\u00a0<\/strong>broke 4:40 for the first time from lane 7 at 4:38.66 to finish third.<\/p>\nArkansas’\u00a0Peyton Palsha\u00a0<\/strong>(4:39.41) finished in fourth place thanks to a great last 50. The time lowered the NCAA record set last season by\u00a0Townley Haas\u00a0<\/strong>of Texas (4:08.19) and also took down\u00a0Zane Grothe’s\u00a0<\/strong>American record of 4:07.25 set in December 2017.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/floridagators.com\/sports\/mens-swimming-and-diving\/roster\/kieran-smith\/13284\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Smith<\/a> finished ahead of Texas A&M junior\u00a0Mark Theall\u00a0<\/strong>(4:10.77) and Florida teammate\u00a0Bobby Finke\u00a0<\/strong>(4:10.86).<\/p>\nKieran Smith led from start to finish and used an incredible last three 50’s to get under the American record. The time broke her own SEC meet record that she set in leading off the 200 free relay (21.15) and also put her second all-time behind\u00a0Abbey Weitzeil\u00a0<\/strong>(20.90). Brown beat Arkansas senior\u00a0Anna Hopkin<\/strong>, who earlier in the night swam the fastest relay split in history at 20.2, as the Brit was second at 21.44.<\/p>\nThis was Brown’s third straight SEC title in the event.<\/p>\nThe four seniors in the field swept the top four spots with Auburn’s\u00a0Julie Meynen\u00a0<\/strong>(21.54) and\u00a0Claire Fisch\u00a0<\/strong>(21.60) finishing in third and fourth.
