{"id":416950,"date":"2020-02-18T18:30:13","date_gmt":"2020-02-19T01:30:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=416950"},"modified":"2020-02-18T19:08:29","modified_gmt":"2020-02-19T02:08:29","slug":"zumo-performance-of-the-week-duncan-scott-swims-routine-48-5-100-free-at-bucs-nationals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/zumo-performance-of-the-week-duncan-scott-swims-routine-48-5-100-free-at-bucs-nationals\/","title":{"rendered":"ZUMO Performance of the Week: Duncan Scott Swims Routine 48.5 100 Free at BUCS Nationals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/swimmingworld.azureedge.net\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/BannerAdZumo.jpg?zoom=2&amp;resize=900%2C125&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"BannerAdZumo\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This week&#8217;s ZUMO Performance of the Week goes to\u00a0<strong>Duncan Scott\u00a0<\/strong>of Great Britain for his 48.53 in the LCM 100 freestyle at the BUCS (British Universities &amp; Colleges Sport) Nationals in Sheffield on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The Olympic and world medallist was leading off the University of Stirling\u2019s 4x100m free relay squad at Ponds Forge, going out in 23.47 and back in 25.06.<\/p>\n<p>He handed over to 2019 world finalist\u00a0<strong>Scott McLay<\/strong>\u00a0who split 51.03 and on to\u00a0<strong>Lorenz Weiremans<\/strong>\u00a0(51.15) with\u00a0<strong>Calum Bain<\/strong> anchoring the quartet in 49.87 as they finished in 3:20.58.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.britishswimming.org\/athlete-swimming-profiles\/british-swimming-profiles\/duncan-scott\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Duncan Scott<\/a> made headlines this summer when he swam the fastest 100 freestyle relay split in textile with a 46.14 on the end of Great Britain&#8217;s 4x100m medley relay that shocked the Americans and the Russians to win the gold medal on the last day in Gwangju. It was the second fastest relay split behind USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jason Lezak&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>46.06 from the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in perhaps the most famous relay race in swimming history.<\/p>\n<p>Scott elected not to swim the 100 freestyle at the World Championships last summer, in favor of the 200 IM. He may have to decide between those two events again this summer at the Olympic Games with the 100 free final falling on the same night as the 200 IM semi final on night five.
