Wentzel swam a 2:11.85 to lower the old record of 2:12.20 set by\u00a0<strong>Samantha Senczyszyn\u00a0<\/strong>of UW-Eau Claire in 2016.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stkatesathletics.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=3613&amp;path=wswim\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wentzel&#8217;s<\/a> previous best time was a 2:12.59 at last year&#8217;s NCAAs when she finished as the runner-up to Denison&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>KT Kustritz<\/strong>. Wentzel was a 2:15.2 already this season and showed she is going to be tough to beat with that new record on Saturday night. Wentzel was four seconds faster than the next quickest swimmer on the weekend, which was Williams senior <strong>Caroline White<\/strong>, who won NESCACs at 2:15.05.<\/p>\n<p>Kustritz did not swim the 200 breast at the NCAC Championships this weekend in favor of the non-NCAA event 100 IM. It is presumed Kustritz will swim the 200 at NCAAs in four weeks where she will shoot for a third straight national title, but it will be difficult with last year&#8217;s runner-up Wentzel, as well as last year&#8217;s third place finisher White returning this season.<\/p>\n<p>Wentzel led St. Catherine to the conference title at the University of Minnesota with 700.5 points ahead of St. Thomas (664) and Gustavus (626.5).<\/p>\n<p>Jordyn Wentzel also won the 100 breast at 1:01.40 and the 200 IM at 2:01.59 to sit third and fifth respectively. She was not the only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ncaa-division-iii-swimming-records\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">record breaker in Division III<\/a> on the weekend as Kenyon&#8217;s\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/crile-hart-breaks-ncaa-division-iii-record-in-200-im-at-ncac-championships\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Crile Hart<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>lowered the NCAA record in the 200 IM at the NCAC Championships.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>St. Catherine sophomore\u00a0Jordyn Wentzel\u00a0broke the NCAA Division III record in the 200 breaststroke on Saturday night at the MIAC Championships in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
