{"id":414662,"date":"2020-02-09T10:00:31","date_gmt":"2020-02-09T17:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=414662"},"modified":"2020-02-09T01:38:44","modified_gmt":"2020-02-09T08:38:44","slug":"swimming-world-presents-goldminds-partnering-with-parents-a-coachs-guide-to-swim-parents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/swimming-world-presents-goldminds-partnering-with-parents-a-coachs-guide-to-swim-parents\/","title":{"rendered":"Swimming World Presents &#8220;GoldMinds: Partnering With Parents &#8211; A Coach&#8217;s Guide To Swim Parents&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\">GoldMinds: Partnering With Parents<\/span><\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\">By Wayne Goldsmith<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A simple, but effective strategy for coaches to engage with, connect to and educate the parents of the swimmers on their team is through the development of a \u201cTraining Manual for Swimming Parents.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a training manual for most professions and vocations:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Pilots wanting to learn how to fly and safely land a plane have a training manual.<br \/>\n\u2022 People doing driver\u2019s education programs have a training manual that teaches them all they need to know about safely operating a motor vehicle.<br \/>\n\u2022 Even swimming coaches have training manuals that detail all the information they need to coach and lead a swimming program.<br \/>\n\u2022 Many swimming clubs will provide swimmers with training manuals that outline all the important things they need to know about practice times, equipment requirements, meet qualifications and training etiquette.<\/p>\n<p>However, the one thing that\u2019s missing is a \u201cTraining Manual for Swimming Parents.\u201d If you talk to swimming coaches about their views on swimming parents, some might say things such as:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 \u201cI wish the parents were more supportive of my program.\u201d<br \/>\n\u2022 \u201cI wish the parents would stop interfering in what we\u2019re trying to do.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cI wish the parents would stop placing so much unnecessary pressure on their children when it comes to meets and practices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The only people who use \u201cwishes\u201d to get what they want are Disney princesses, Shrek and people who kiss frogs!<\/p>\n<p>Parents are your partners! They play a vital role in helping the swimmers on your team realize their potential, achieve their goals and become remarkable human beings.
