Highlights include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/tom-shields-sets-lifetime-best-in-200-yard-butterfly\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tom Shields swimming a lifetime best to move up to 4th all-time in the 200 fly \u00a0(1:38.80)<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Jacob Pebley racing to a 1:44.93 200 backstroke<\/li>\n<li>Marius Kusch throwing down a 44.84 100 fly<\/li>\n<li>Ali DeLoof taking down her sister Catie to claim the 100 back in 53.55<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>SCORES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cal &#8211; 166, UCSD &#8211; 90<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/sidearm.sites\/calberk.sidearmsports.com\/documents\/2020\/2\/7\/2020_02_07_UC_San_Diego_Dual_Meet_Results.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Results<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffcc00;\">Cal Recap<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>LOS ANGELES <\/strong>\u2013 California flexed its depth on Friday afternoon with a pair of dual meet victories against Pac-12 Conference foe USC and UC San Diego at Uytengsu Aquatics Center and Canyonview Aquatic Center, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Half of Cal&#8217;s squad cruised past USC, 161-130, in Los Angeles before the other half handled its own business in a 166-90 win over the Tritons in San Diego. Cal improved to 5-0 in the dual meet format this season and has won 11 consecutive dual meets dating back to Oct. 3, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>In Los Angeles, <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/calbears.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=14863\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"14863\">Zheng Wen Quah<\/a><\/dfn> and <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/calbears.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=14867\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"14867\">Reece Whitley<\/a><\/dfn> anchored Cal&#8217;s performance with 18 points apiece. Quah won both butterfly events, touching the wall in 46.76 in the 100 fly and 1:43.95 in the 200 fly, while Whitley swept the breaststroke races (53.22 in the 100 breast; 1:54.64 in the 200 breast). Both swimmers also won the 200 medley relay as they paired with <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/calbears.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=14852\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"14852\">Daniel Carr<\/a><\/dfn> and <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/calbears.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=14857\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"14857\">Michael Jensen<\/a><\/dfn> for a 1:26.11 finish.<\/p>\n<p>Other individual victories over USC were earned by <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/calbears.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=14854\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"14854\">Sean Grieshop<\/a><\/dfn> in the 500 free (4:24.65), <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/calbears.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=14856\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"14856\">Ryan Hoffer<\/a><\/dfn> in the 50 free (19.64), Jensen in the 100 free (44.41), <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/calbears.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=14859\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"14859\">Trenton Julian<\/a><\/dfn> in the 1000 free (9:02.88) and <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/calbears.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=14860\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"14860\">Bryce Mefford<\/a><\/dfn> in the 100 back (47.18).<\/p>\n<p>In San Diego, a four-pronged attack by <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/calbears.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=14879\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"14879\">Calvin David<\/a><\/dfn>, <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/calbears.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=14858\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"14858\">Chris Jhong<\/a><\/dfn>, <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/calbears.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=14870\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"14870\">Michael Petrides<\/a><\/dfn>and <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/calbears.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=14869\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"14869\">Ethan Young<\/a><\/dfn> paved the way to Cal&#8217;s second win of the afternoon. David captured victories in the 1000 free (9:22.88) and 500 free (4:32.28).\u00a0 Jhong was the fastest finisher in the 200 breast (2:02.10) and 200 IM (1:48.14). Petrides won the 200 free (1:38.44) and 100 free (44.85) and played a role in Cal&#8217;s 400 free relay win (2:59.41). Young swept the backstroke events, taking the 100 in 48.51 and the 200 in 1:47.07.<\/p>\n<p><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/calbears.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=14877\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"14877\">Marcos Rico Peng<\/a><\/dfn> earned a win in the 100 breast (55.86) while <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/calbears.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=14868\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"14868\">Jack Xie<\/a><\/dfn> won in the 200 fly (1:48.04).<\/p>\n<p><strong>NEXT TIME<\/strong><br \/>\nCal will round out its two-day trip to SoCal with a non-scoring long course competition against UC San Diego at noon on Saturday, Feb. 8. Their score against Cal<\/p>\n<p>The competition featured swimmers from Team Elite, post graduate California swimmers and some of the top swimmers in the sport including Jacob Pebley, Tom Shield and Gabby Deluth.<\/p>\n<p>The Tritons started the meet with bang and won the 200-yard Medley Relay with a ppol record time of 1:29.05. <dfn><a class=\"sidearm-roster-link-normalized\" href=\"https:\/\/ucsdtritons.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=7894\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"7894\">Tyler James<\/a><\/dfn>, <dfn><a class=\"sidearm-roster-link-normalized\" href=\"https:\/\/ucsdtritons.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=7876\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"7876\">Edgar Chin<\/a><\/dfn>, <dfn><a class=\"sidearm-roster-link-normalized\" href=\"https:\/\/ucsdtritons.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=7885\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"7885\">Lance Freiman<\/a><\/dfn> and <dfn><a class=\"sidearm-roster-link-normalized\" href=\"https:\/\/ucsdtritons.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=7878\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"7878\">Spencer Daily<\/a><\/dfn> made up the relay team.<\/p>\n<p><dfn><a class=\"sidearm-roster-link-normalized\" href=\"https:\/\/ucsdtritons.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=7878\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"7878\">Spencer Daily&#8217;s<\/a><\/dfn> performance was the highlight of the day. He won the first event of the day in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.34. Later he would pick up a win in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 48.65.<\/p>\n<p><dfn><a class=\"sidearm-roster-link-normalized\" href=\"https:\/\/ucsdtritons.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=7876\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"7876\">Edgar Chin<\/a><\/dfn> came in second in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke.
