{"id":414595,"date":"2020-02-08T17:25:19","date_gmt":"2020-02-09T00:25:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=414595"},"modified":"2020-02-08T17:25:19","modified_gmt":"2020-02-09T00:25:19","slug":"gretchen-walsh-blasts-46-98-100-free-for-new-national-high-school-record","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/gretchen-walsh-blasts-46-98-100-free-for-new-national-high-school-record\/","title":{"rendered":"Gretchen Walsh Blasts 46.98 100 Free for New National High School Record"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a dominant first day at the 2020 TISCA Championships in Knoxville where she broke the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/gretchen-walsh-drops-21-59-50-free-for-new-national-high-school-record\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National High School record in the 50 free<\/a>, <strong>Gretchen Walsh\u00a0<\/strong>wasted no time rewriting history on day two.<\/p>\n<p>While representing Harpeth Hall High School, Walsh blasted a 46.98 in the 100 free to break\u00a0<strong>Abbey Weitzeil&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>overall National High School record of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=TbZD8WJlZDs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">47.09<\/a> set on May 16, 2015 at the CIF State Championships.<\/p>\n<p><em>Her splits:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>50 free &#8211; 22.66<\/li>\n<li>100 free &#8211; 46.98 (24.32)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Walsh also took down\u00a0<strong>Missy Franklin&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>National Independent High School record of 48.39 set on February 13, 2010. Weitzeil, who recently became\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/abbey-weitzeil-breaks-american-record-with-20-90-50-free-at-minnesota-invitational\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the first woman to ever break 21 seconds<\/a>\u00a0in the 50 free, still owns the National Public High School record in the event.<\/p>\n<p>Walsh is now the third fastest 100 freestyler in 17-18 age group history:<\/p>\n<p>1. Simone Manuel &#8211; 46.09<br \/>\n2. Abbey Weitzeil &#8211; 46.29<br \/>\n<em><strong>3. Gretchen Walsh &#8211; 46.98<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Walsh does her club swimming with Nashville Aquatic Club and is a member of the USA Swimming National Team.
