The 2020 North Carolina High School Boys\u2019 State Swimming and Diving 4A State Championships took place on Friday, February 7 at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary, N.C.<\/p>\n

Green Hope used their impressive depth to secure their third-consecutive team title. Senior Michael Moore\u00a0<\/strong>broke the Class 4A record in the 200 IM with a time of 1:47.83, while Green Hope’s 4×50 medley relay broke the 4A and state record in the 4×50 medley relay in a combined time of 1:32.24. Moore was named the meet’s Most Outstanding Swimmer.<\/p>\n

Green Hope\u2019s Colin Cotter <\/strong>(23.40), Michael Cotter <\/strong>(26.26), Jesse Ssengonzi <\/strong>(21.90), and John Satterfield <\/strong>(20.68) began the meet with a bang by winning the 4×50 medley relay in 1:32.24. Their time broke Athens Drive’s 4A and state record of 1:32.35 set last season.<\/p>\n

Cotter was soon back in the pool to win the 200 free in an impressive time of 1:38.58. Also sneaking under the 1:40-barrier was Middle Creek\u2019s Braeden Haughey <\/strong>in 1:39.01 for second. Shortly after, Haughey dove back in the pool to claim the 500 free state title in 4:26.44, six seconds ahead of the field.<\/p>\n

Moore, who has committed to the NC State Wolfpack<\/a>, gave Green Hope another individual victory after taking the top spot in the 200 IM with a time of 1:47.83. Reid Mikuta <\/strong>of Page also got under the 1:50-marker in 1:48.19 for silver. Both swimmers were under the previous 4A mark of 1:48.26 set by J.H. Rose’s Matt Houser\u00a0<\/strong>in 2009, but the record now ultimately belongs to Moore.<\/p>\n

Moore later went on to win the 100 back in 49.22 ahead of Riverside\u2019s\u00a0Ryan Weaver<\/strong> (49.51). After taking second in the 100 breast a year ago, Mikuta earned the state title this season after getting his hands to the wall the quickest in 55.02.<\/p>\n

Weaver then went on to splash-and-dash his way to first in the 50 free, stopping the clock in a swift 20.67 for the victory ahead of Satterfield (20.86). Satterfield later found himself on top of the podium in the 100 free after stopping the clock in 45.23 for the title.<\/p>\n

Ssengonzi also picked up a win in the 100 fly with a time of 49.09. John T. Hoggard\u2019s Jason Bunn <\/strong>dove to first on the 1-meter board, finishing with a final score of 427.30 ahead of runner-up Peter Edin <\/strong>(425.85) of Panther Creek,<\/p>\n

Ben Prucha <\/strong>(21.59), Jackson Pollard <\/strong>(21.41), Moore (20.86), and M. Cotter (20.97) won the 4×50 free relay in 1:24.83, narrowly edging out runner-up Page (1:24.98). Ssengonzi (47.61), Moore (46.66), C. Cotter (48.50), and Satterfield (45.61) sealed Green Hope\u2019s team win by concluding the meet as 4×100 free relay champions in 3:08.38.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
