For Ashley McCool, it began in Alberta, Canada, training from an early age in an individual sport.<br \/>\nInstead of staying in Canada to focus 100% on the Olympics, McCool decided to attend college in the U.S., which is a completely different focus. Going from finishing national runner-up in Canada to the gauntlet of NCAA divers is quite different.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Olympics is something I look for in my sports career,\u201d McCool said. \u201cI trained in Calgary my whole life. It is just different. When you go to the States, you kind of get thrown out for going to the Olympics if you go to school. I never really realized how big it was until I transferred. I was on the national team for Canada. I have been to a lot of places, so the travel isn\u2019t new to me. I was 17 when I first started college. I didn\u2019t think it was going to be that hard to move away from my parents, but I am super close to my family, and it was hard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While being away from her family was difficult, McCool eventually realized it was because she hadn\u2019t found the right team family. After two years at Arizona State, McCool transferred to Florida this season.<\/p>\n<p>She felt the difference immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the biggest change for me was it just wasn\u2019t the right team environment or atmosphere for me at Arizona State,\u201d McCool said. \u201cFlorida reached out to me to try and recruit me. I came down here on a recruiting trip, and it was such an eye opener with the team and the team environment. I never thought I would be here and have such a great experience.
