Saturday\u2019s Big Ten tri-meet hosted by Purdue included a special guest, and a record-setting one at that.<\/p>\n
Purdue alumna Kaersten Meitz<\/strong> set the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center record in the 1,000-yard freestyle during a time trial Saturday during the meet with Northwestern and Minnesota<\/a>.<\/p>\n In a break between the 200 breaststroke and 400 free relay, Meitz laid down a time<\/a> of 9:29.05, trouncing the pool record of 9:32.02 set by Southern Methodist University grad and Swiss Olympian Flavia Rigamonti<\/strong> at the 2005 NCAA Championships.<\/p>\n Meitz, a 2018 graduate of the Boilermakers, set the school record in the 1,000 free at the Big Ten Triple Duals in Minneapolis during her senior year with a time of 9:38.46. Saturday\u2019s time trial is a fitting illustration of how she\u2019s grown into one of the United States\u2019 top female distance swimmers since her graduation.
