NEW YORK, September 11. ON Saturday, November 9th, 2002, Asphalt Green will host "Swim for the Future," a memorial swim honoring the lives of two Asphalt Green Masters Swimmers, Andrew Fisher and Doug Irgang, who lost their lives in the World Trade Center terrorist attacks on this date one year ago. Last year's event was a huge success and raised over $150,000.<\/p>\n
Proceeds from "Swim for the Future" will provide financial support to young competitive swimmers who show dedication and passion for the sport of swimming but have a limited financial capacity to pursue their dreams. <\/p>\n
This year's event will take place on Saturday, November 9th, 2002. A Kick-Off event will be held on Monday, September 23rd at Asphalt Green, at which time registration forms will be available. For more information regarding the Kick-Off, call 212-369-8890 ext. 230<\/p>\n
Anyone may participate in "Swim for the Future," as a swimmer, sponsor or spectator. Participants will collect donations based on the number of laps they swim or as a one time, tax-deductible gift to Asphalt Green\u2019s Scholarship fund. To request an application, call 1-800-NYC-SWIM. <\/p>\n
Those who are unable to swim, but would like to be a sponsor can write a check payable to: Asphalt Green Swim for the Future, 555 East 90th Street, New York, NY 10128. Donations may be dropped of at the Membership Desk or phoned in to 212-369-8890 ext. 230. Asphalt Green is a not-for-profit organization and all donations are 100% tax deductible.<\/p>\n
