Northwestern swimming and diving closed out their final home meet of the regular season with a sweep of Cincinnati Friday afternoon in the Norris Aquatics Center with a 184-111 win for the women and a 163-130 win for the men. The win secured a 6-1 record for the women’s team at home and a 4-1 record for the men’s in the Norris Aquatics Center.<\/p>\n
The women’s team started the afternoon off with a bang, setting a new pool record in the 200 medley relay. The relay team of juniors Calypso Sheridan, Sophie Angus,<\/strong> and Maddie Smith<\/strong> and senior Malorie Han<\/strong> touched the wall in 1:37.60 for the record breaking win. The men’s relay also took first place in the 200 medley relay with a season-high time of 1:27.27, setting the pace for the rest of the meet.<\/p>\n Ilektra Lebl<\/strong> took home the first individual gold for the Wildcats in the 1,000 free and the men kept the momentum rolling with D.J. Hwang<\/strong> leading a 1-2 sweep of the 1,000 free with a career best time of 9:06.91. Northwestern completed 12 1-2 sweeps or better in the meet.<\/p>\n First-year phenom Federico Burdisso<\/strong> stayed hot coming off back-to-back Big Ten Freshman of the Week Awards, leading a 1-2-3 sweep of the 200 free with a time of 1:34.15, breaking a school and pool record that stood for 12 years. He went on to take the top spot in the 500 free with a time of 4:20.84, nearly seven seconds faster than second place.<\/p>\n Sheridan was characteristically dominant in the 500 free as well, breaking out the seventh fastest 500 in Northwestern history with a time of 4:46.88.<\/p>\n First-year Ally Larson<\/strong> also made Northwestern history Friday, her first place finish in the 200 fly setting a new school record time of 1:56.32.<\/p>\n The meet closed out with the women’s team taking home the gold in the 400 free relay. Smith, Sheridan, Larson and Han set a new school and pool record with a time of 3:17.45. The previous record was recently set earlier this season at the TYR Invitational.<\/p>\n Sophomore Yohan Eskrick-Parkinson<\/strong> dominated men’s diving. Taking first place in the 3m with a 342.23 and first in the 1m with a 339.90. The Northwestern men swept the 1m taking first, second, and third place. First year Markie Hopkins<\/strong> took the gold in the women’s 3m with a 331.58, a season high by over 10 points.<\/p>\n The men’s team improves to 5-4 on the season while the women improve to 9-2.
