Americans rank first in nine of 28 total events, six on the girls\u2019 side. (U-18 eligibility in 2019 belongs to anyone born on or after Sept. 2, 1999.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usaswimming.org\/docs\/default-source\/national-junior-teamdocuments\/education\/usa-swimming-2019-18-under-world-100.pdf?Status=Temp&amp;sfvrsn=eea62532_4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">USA Swimming 2019 U-18 World 100s<\/a> (pdf)<\/p>\n<p>The federation&#8217;s world lists are not complete in the depths, however, with coaches, swimmers and rankings collators from around the world already noting that the lists have overlooked age performances from Australia, Asia and Europe.<\/p>\n<p>The top girls\u2019 swim in terms of FINA points belongs to <strong>Regan Smith,<\/strong> whose time of 2:03.35 in the 200-meter backstroke checks in at 1035 points. Smith posted the fastest time in three events, leading the way in the 200 back and 100 back (57.57 seconds), both senior world records. She also posted the top time in the 200 butterfly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emma Weyant\u2019s<\/strong> 4:35.47 was first last year in the 400 individual medley. <strong>Alex Walsh<\/strong> led the world in the 200 IM at 2:09.01, while <strong>Gretchen Walsh<\/strong> was tops in the 50 freestyle.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usaswimming.org\/docs\/default-source\/national-junior-teamdocuments\/education\/18-under-world-rankings---2019.pdf?Status=Temp&amp;sfvrsn=4aab2532_5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2019 World Junior 100s<\/a> (pdf)<\/p>\n<p>Two American boys led the world in 2019: <strong>Luca Urlando<\/strong> in the 200 free and 200 fly, and <strong>Carson Foster<\/strong> in the 200 IM. The most FINA points, however, belonged to <strong>Josh Matheny<\/strong> in the 200 breaststroke, though he was second in the world this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe 18 &amp; Under World 100 List is a reflection of the strength of USA Swimming\u2019s future,\u201d USA Swimming Director of the National Junior Team <strong>Mitch Dalton<\/strong> said in a press release. \u201cWhile the National Junior Team is determined based on an all-age world ranking, the World 100 offers an apples-to-apples comparison of how our developmental-aged athletes compare to their international peers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The top 100 lists included 45 members of the U.S. delegation to the 2019 World Junior Championships in Budapest, Hungary, a group that won 18 gold and 37 total
